The Lakers Go Matrix On Us; Blake Griffin Ends In Style; And Call Chicago The Best In The NBA

It’s a wonderful thing when there is one meaningful game that affects the playoff picture on the season’s final night. But do you know what’s better? When there are six. After a regular season that was spine-tingling like ice cream cake on your birthday, we still had five Western Conference seeds in play on the 2010-11 regular season swan song. And oh yeah, that whole potential-to-have-definite-home-court-in-the-Finals may have also been on the line. No big deal … On a night where every team in the entire league played, there was plenty of opportunity for surprise. As it turned out, everything played out exactly like most assumed it would (outside of the Spurs). Where should we start? In Dallas, the Mavs used a murderous third-quarter run, highlighted by five threes and incredible defense, to wipe out the Hornets, 121-89. It was our first taste of playoff basketball, like that appetizer special at Applebee’s. In the third quarter, Chris Paul drew a foul on Shawn Marion as the Mavs’ forward was jogging down on offense. Paul ran right into his path and fell over. So the next time Paul touched the ball, an obviously frustrated Tyson Chandler keyed in on him and decked him. It was absolutely necessary; Paul has to be one of the league’s worst floppers … Besides the physical play, there was Dirk Nowitzki (32 points), showing off the full arsenal of jukes, drives and just plain stupid fadeaways. It’s like every time he’s on national TV, he wants to remind us that he’s Dirk and he’s really good … Dallas was playing for the two seed and home court in the second round, but had to sit back and watch the Lakers dangle it all right in front of their faces, L.A. barely surviving Sacramento 116-108 in overtime in what could’ve been the Kings final game in California’s capital. How do you dodge two bullets in one day? That’s some Matrix $%^&. But L.A. definitely did, first with the good news regarding Andrew Bynum, and then in Sacramento when they blew a 22-point fourth-quarter lead. With 11 seconds left, they were staring a meeting with the hated Blazers in the face, down three after an explosion from Marcus Thornton (33 points), but Kobe Bryant (who scored 36 points after earning a $100,000 fine for a gay slur towards a ref earlier in the day) came up with the game’s biggest shot, a three, to send it to overtime. Once there, the Kings quickly unraveled and the Lakers closed them out and shut the building down … After hearing Kobe’s initial in-game rant, then seeing the NBA fine him and now after hearing Bryant’s “apology,” what’s your opinion on the whole situation?

    @ Jay & Yoda:

Everyone has the “right” to call themselves whatever they want. So go on…keep referring to yourselves as part of the Laker organization. However, realize that no matter how many times or how passionate you say it…it still isn’t true. I’m certain there is a psychological term for the condition you both suffer from…but the only words that come to mind is “dumb shits”.

    Correction:

#104 was intended for Lakeshow & Yoda…not Jay.

The sheer number of posts made by Jay today must have messed with my mind.

  • K Dizzle

@ JH – the team you supports wants you off the bandwagon.
I hate those fake-ass bandwagon fans. At least US Laker fans use WE win or lose.
I see so many “fans” use WE when their team is rollin, but use the team city name when they chokin.
I hate fakeass Laker fans too. One bad game and they be like”Trade Odom…Fish needs to retire”
Stop hatin on stupid shit. Who cares if a dude refers to a squad as MY TEAM?

@ Showtime – Shannon signed for 2 seasons this past summer

@ Ian – You stressed about Ginobili yet? If that elbow serious, Memphis gonna take y’all 7…

The second year is a player option so if he feels he can get mo money than 2.2 million or a bigger role he can opt out after this season.

He hasn’t played as well as at the beginning of the season but with his improved shooting touch someone will probably throw some cash at hime

Going non-playoffs for a minute, I’m interested to see what Minnesota does this summer. Will they be able to bring Rubio in? Will the lockout situation further scare off Rubio’s people? Who will they get with their Top-4 draft pick? What can they do in free agency? They have a nice young core with Love, Beasley, Wes Johnson, Randolph, Darko and Webster.

  • the cynic

^ that’s an awful core. Is anyone in the league really clamoring for Rubio?

  • LakeShow84

Honestly it looks like Minnesota could make some moves and, DARE I SAY IT, fight for a playoff spot next year..

I doubt Rubio is coming tho but i will say if there was anytime to convince him it would be now..

Sit him down and make him watch all of Love’s good games lol

Only people i like are Love, Beasley and Johnson tho.. Maybe a lil Webster.. But 2 of those guys, Johnson and Webster are solid bench contributors..

  • LakeShow84

    @ JH

I think itd be called DIMENTIA..

    Gotta problem with that??? Lol

  • LakeShow84

And IMO the jury should still be out on Rubio..

Hes a smart player and smart players can adapt EASIER than o say ur typical monster, but dumb bball IQ wise, athlete..

  • http://www.dimemag.com Austin Burton

@cynic — I don’t think that’s a bad core. Love, Beasley and Johnson are legit, and Webster is a good shooter and defender. Then, even if you don’t think Darko, Randolph and/or Flynn can help Minnesota, they’re all young enough and have enough potential to return something decent in a trade.

  • LakeShow84

My bad Randolph and Webbie are solid bench players..

But id say Randolph and Darko have worn out their trade value AB.. those are 2 of the most used up potential trade pieces the past 2-3 years..

  • http://www.dimemag.com Austin Burton

Darko is still blocking shots and Randolph had that one monster game while Love was out. Throw in youth and size and (at least with Randolph) the perception that he hasn’t had a “real” chance yet to succeed and I could see them still being decent trade bait at least.

  • K Dizzle

Wolves have 2 options. Trade the youth and picks for guys who can help you win right now…or stay the path and keep pilin up young talent since the days of Kobe, Nash, Dirk, Duncan are comin to an end and youth will begin to rule.
Problem with the Wolves is their GM isn’t as skilled as the dudes buildin OKC, Portland, etc.
The number of misses by the Wolves is ridiculous.
They got lucky with Love for Mayo, but Foye for Roy was a bad miss.

  • LakeShow84

I think Roy for Foye was McHales last hurrah lol

Id tell them to hold on to the youth tho.. Or trade it all for a 6-7 seed team??? i guess somethings better than nothing.. But still aint too many gonna be happy ending up Minnesoter at the moment..

    @ AB

Problem is Randolph has BEEN getting sold on that premise of not having a “chance”.. me personally i dont think he’ll ever pan out..

Crazy talented tho.. even in GS he was talented and he was just a toothpick rookie..

  • LakeShow84

You could say Nellie jacked him up with all his herk and jerk rotations..

Shit he would mess with Randolphs playing time during his sophomore year and that was really one of Randolphs best years..

  • the cynic

    @austin

Their is a reason the Wolves jumped out on teams early, but got crushed in the second half. Teams didn’t take them serious, didn’t play with intensity, and spent more time thinking about dinner than the Wolves. And they still had the worse record. Love is the 3rd or 4th best player on a playoff team. Sweet. He’s Reggie Evans with a jumpshot and basketball IQ. I like Love, but im not delusional about who he is

Randolph is the classic example of a player who ruined his career by joining the NBA at 19. This guy doesn’t have the mental toughness to learn on the job. He may develop 3/4 years from now, but it won’t be with the Wolves

Darko is a good backup C, Webster is an ok backup wing on a good team, and Flynn…. isn’t half the player Toney Douglas is right now.

Wes Johnson is good though, I like his game, but he is the same age as Webster and a rookie

I don’t even want to get started on Beasley, who can become an All-Star or Charlie V. Which do you think is more likely?

  • the cynic

obviously I’m a hater, but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong

  • First & Foremost

Hmmm, Minny COULD become something. Another one of those teams that have that Gay Voltron unity where individually they all are aight but as a group they become uber efficient –Synergy. Love really can’t guard the elite power forwards but none of them can stop him from rebounding. Beasley can’t guard 3′s or 4′s but not many can stop him with his one move. People can’t stop laughing at Darko until they see the box score and he had 6 blocks. They have a solid core but not the PG/Coach combo to make noise. Rubio might fix that but I’m not counting on it.

  • JAY

“obviously I’m a hater, but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong”

^ ^ This is the hater creed.
I’m printing this on some t-shirts! Cynic, i’ll send you one for coming up with it. Don’t sue me if you start seeing this in your local shops.. Lol.

  • beiber newz

hahaha for thr toad, apr 17, laker playoff opener, after game was over:

someone wanted to know if the Lakers would have benefitted from better distribution of their shots – or, say, fewer from Kobe – Bryant made this point unmistakably clear:

“If the effort isn’t there,” he said, “I’m not going to sit around and wait, especially in the playoffs.”

hence like i was saying IF DA OFFENSE SUCKS, GIVE THE BALL TO KOBE. He doesnt just go out and say, ‘i wanna soot everything.’

theres reasoning and tactics behind it.

    dumb squirrels
