We Reminisce: UNLV Destroys Duke In The 1990 NCAA Championship

How good of a game will tonight’s NCAA Championship be between UConn and Butler? Lets hope it’s better than the title game 21 years ago when the Runnin’ Rebels slaughtered Duke by 30 points.

This weekend, I watched HBO’s documentary on UNLV and was reminded of how ill they were. Their style, their talent, their attitude – it didn’t matter if the NCAA hated them and everything they stood for. The Rebels repped for Las Vegas and were one of the best college teams ever (their 1991 team was even better and yet somehow didn’t win it all). Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon, Greg Anthony and Anderson Hunt embarrassed Duke. Watch and be amazed, but pray tonight’s game is closer than this one was.

Was this the most exciting college basketball team ever?

Actually, I’ma pray UConn wins in a blowout. But that’s just me…

And yeah UNLV was ILL. I actually was just recently wondering why Greg Anthony disappeared from the halftime reports and stuff…nice to see him back. You can keep Steven A. Smith, but Greg Anthony was missed.

….shout out to Ricky Davis in Dime #63. He’s the prototype for JR Smith types, before there was JR Smith. Troublesome from time to time. Athletic. Heat em up quick, microwave type buckets…but not every night.

Runnin Rebels were INCREDIBLE .. their preseason exhibition games included a 40+pt beat down of the USSR team without mercy ..
Putting Laettner to the sword was beautiful!
