Since we know the NBA won’t do it, we’re sorry Seattle. The NBA’s New Big Thing took their biggest step since leaving the Emerald City with a 105-90 series-clinching win over Memphis. When two teams are so evenly matched, so deadlocked after six games that only one all-or-nothing, do-or-die showdown can decide who goes on and who goes home, it’s like a scene from a Clint Eastwood movie: in the end, it’s just Clint, a hand cannon and bodies. Games like these build legacies.Read More »
Kevin Durant better be ready. After turning in a John Starks-like 3-for-14 stinker on Friday night, Game 7 could be KD’s to win or lose. We know who Memphis will go to, and while Russell Westbrook has played very well, Durant can be the difference if he’s ready … This afternoon, the conference semifinals will officially wrap up at 3:30 p.m. (ET) with the Game 7 between Memphis and the Thunder. While the trash-talking has already started, Chicago and Miami have to wait until tonight (8 p.m. (ET)) to tip off … Read More »
For four games, Zach Randolph was held down. His shooting percentages dropped (never hitting above 36 percent). But the odds that the NBA’s Cinderella would go another 48 playing like Oliver Miller? 1 to 10. Or something like that. Randolph took over Game 6 in the fourth quarter, helping Memphis grind out a 95-83 win to send it back to Oklahoma City for Game 7. Randolph (30 points, 13 rebounds) was a beast throughout the final quarter, scoring on drop steps and hook shots. Read More »
It’s only appropriate that it’s both Friday the 13th as well as Dennis Rodman‘s birthday. Perhaps the greatest rebounder in NBA history, he’s popping up everywhere lately, from having his jersey retired in Detroit to celebrating as only he can, with strippers and all sorts of amazing things.
Once upon a time, he was the Worm. And he was the best ever at what he did. But today, he turns 50!
With the Eastern Conference Finals set to kick off this weekend, there are almost too many subplots to dig into. There’s the battle between MVPs – the guy who won and the guy many thought should’ve won. There’s the battle of good vs. evil; Miami is the new generation, overhyped and overloaded with ego while the Bulls are from the old school. Neither city likes the other, and both couldn’t be more different. The series is shaping up to be a classic. Read More »
This is kind of crazy. We originally found this clip via Deadspin and the video was too wild not to share. The team in question, French pro squad Poitiers Basket 86, apparently has a new method of training to get them ready for the court: giant robotic rides. According to a French connection of the Dime fam, the video is a joke by these known pranksters, but just imagine trying to throw an accurate chest pass while being flipped upside down in this thing. It looks more like a drill NASA would perform than a basketball team. And we thought D-Rose and company had intense workouts…
Jason Kidd is the NBA’s ultimate chameleon. It’s been 17 years and he’s still reinventing himself. He’s gone from a suped-up jet called “Ason” to the league’s most dangerous and valuable guard to a three-point shooting, shut-‘em-down-defensively old vet. Malcontent to team leader to grandpa. From Dallas to Phoenix to New Jersey and back again to Dallas. Full circle. Read More »
With the Conference Finals about to start, the NBA has graced us with their second commercial spot for the 2011 NBA Finals. Watch as the official basketball of the NBA (this time voiced by Roy Firestone) sits down with Magic Johnson to find out how it felt when he knew he took down Larry Bird in the Finals.
