The Miami Heat: Seeing Is Believing

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade & Chris Bosh

Growth is normally transparent. You don’t actually see it, or realize it’s happening, until afterwards, until it’s too late.

Sometimes you do all you can to stop something, but it doesn’t matter. Time never stops. It won’t wait. You mature just because you’re alive, just from living and breathing and experiencing. At 18, you’re on top of the world. But at 22, you’ll realize that world was just a tiny piece of the universe, the smallest peak on the largest mountaintop any of us has ever seen. Read More »

Derek Fisher: Retirement’s Not Even A Thought; Lakers Can Win

Derek Fisher

If Derek Fisher decided to hang it up after the Lakers attended their own funeral the other night, you couldn’t be mad at him. He’ll turn 37 this August, has played 15 years in the League, and oh yeah, he’s won five NBA Championships. Not bad. But apparently none of that matters. Once the president of the National Basketball Players Association handles his business off the court this summer, he wants to handle his business back on it. Read More »

Dime #64: Kevin Durant & Russell Westbrook Are Generation Now

Dime #64

To be honest, we don’t know what the NBA will look like by the time the issue following this one hits newsstands. For all we know, the lockout will be in full effect and half the league will be headed overseas to join Allen Iverson, Stephon Marbury and Ricky Davis. But what we do know is that when play resumes – whether that’s October, November, December, or beyond – the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook will be leading the pack. 2011 NBA Draft “Testing The Waters” Combine Results

NBA Draft

We all know about the NBA Draft combine. Every year, the future All-Stars and Hall of Famers get tested on everything from standing reach to their hand size. But this year marked the first year the NBA put together a combine for potential draftees and underclassmen still deciding whether or not to stay in the Draft. On May 7-8, 44 underclassmen, even including a few seniors, RSVD’d to attend the “testing the waters” combine. For them, it was another opportunity to showcase themselves and get a feel for what their value would be should they stay in the draft. Read More »

Derrick Rose And Chicago’s Defense Do Work

Derrick Rose

We’re convinced the Hawks just don’t think. It’s like Atlanta came into Chicago last night with everyone telling them they wouldn’t win, and even the Bulls echoing that by going up 15 in the first half, and yet the Hawks just played on pure basketball instinct. They played hard, unselfishly and cohesive, with no one really caring who got the shots and everyone helping to try to stop Derrick Rose. The old Hawks would’ve gotten blown out and ruined an entire night of basketball. But these guys…these guys weathered the storm with just simple, fundamental basketball. But you know what? None if it mattered. Read More »

We Reminisce: Ray Allen Dunks On Tracy McGrady

After posting Ray Allen‘s dunk on Chris Bosh this morning, one of our commenters, Promoman, mentioned that his favorite Ray dunk was when he got Tracy McGrady. If you don’t remember, just over 10 years ago, the Bucks were up 2-0 in a best-of-five first-round series against the Magic trying to close it out on the road. Orlando, which had lost 11 straight games against Milwaukee, pulled out the victory despite letting a 14-point lead slip away in the last five minutes, punctuated by this dunk at the end of regulation.

NBA Draft: Butler’s Shelvin Mack Will Be This Year’s Greivis Vasquez

Shelvin Mack

Since jumping onto the national radar in Butler’s amazing 2010 National Championship run, Shelvin Mack has gone from unexpected surprise to burgeoning star. Last season, many of the accolades associated with the Bulldogs’ success was credited to current Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward and Coach Brad Stevens – and rightly so. But this season, with an even more improbable return to the NCAA title game, Mack made the difference. And along with graduating forward Matt Howard, Mack made the nation once again take notice of the skills that Coach Stevens has so openly coveted. Read More »
