On July 8th of last year, LeBron James announced in front of a national audience on ESPN, “I’m taking my talents to South Beach.” That announcement unleashed a strong legion of “haters” – primarily from Cleveland – but with members all over the country. These haters are people who suddenly became fervently anti-LeBron for a variety of reasons: “The Decision” was a slap in the face to Cleveland, he’s a coward who can’t win without Dwyane Wade, he turned his back on a city that adored him, and the list goes on and on. I must admit, I am one of those people. Read More »
Seven months of anticipation will finally subside tonight. The NBA Finals kick off and we couldn’t be any more hyped. Well, we’re probably not as hyped as D-Wade is right now. He’s likely itching to get his game straight after playing a full practice yesterday. Udonis Haslem, Mike Miller and James Jones took part as well after sitting out over the weekend. Nevertheless, Wade’s potential impact and health going into this series will be pivotal. Flash and Haslem are the only Heat players left from the ’06 championship squad. It remains to be seen if they’ll hold those honors a few weeks from now … Read More »
Whoops. So it looks like the Lakers are having a few regrets about not running the Mike Brown hiring by Kobe before pulling the trigger. Why would you want to discuss who your franchise player and future Hall-of-Famer would be playing under for at least the next year? It’s not like he had endorsed another candidate in the Lakers’ head-coaching race (oh wait). It’s also not like he’s been a pivotal player in five of the organization’s championships (oh wait again). Is this a hint of things to come? Are the Lakers already planning for a Kobe-less future?Read More »
In some news that shouldn’t really be a surprise considering how putrid their roster is, the Cavs are possibly looking to trade up to grab the second pick in the NBA Draft. If you’re keeping track, that would leave them with the top two picks in the whole thing, which they would then probably use to take Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams. How would it happen? With a three-team deal involving Detroit and Minnesota. The Cavs would bring in Rip Hamilton and his mighty contract which would be absorbed in the trade exemption from the LeBron trade. They would also get the Pistons’ eighth pick and send that pick, along with the fourth pick to the Wolves for the second pick. Read More »
“Since y’all won’t let me in…Imma force my way in…”
No, it’s not a reference to the NBA, the title of Little Rock-bred, Atlanta-based rapper SL Jones’ new mixtape The Number 23, but more a representation of where he grew up and what’s to come. 23 stands for the 23rd and Wolfe neighborhood he was raised in, and for greatness. That’s what the rapper wants. Read More »
With everyone so caught up in the unbelievable play of LeBron James, and of course what Scottie Pippenhad to say about it, we are forgetting something. What happens if Dwyane Wade gets his game back? The last time Wade was in the Finals, he certainly had his ‘A’ Game.
Scottie Pippen always had MJ’s back, on or off the court. They were partners in crime, two bloodhounds who unleashed the wrath of Chicago on the NBA for 10 seasons. And even as he settled into retirement, Pippen has stayed true to what he believed while he played: that Jordan was the greatest ever. Now apparently, someone might be swaying his mind. Read More »
TUPAC BACK! Nah just kidding. But that song off Maybach Music Group’s new album, “Self Made,” was just one half of a medley done by the group on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this week. Wale emerged during the performance of “Play Your Part” rocking the Wizards new jerseys, joints that he wasn’t really feeling earlier. He must’ve changed his mind.
