If you don’t know about the Goodman League, then chances are you don’t know much about hoops. Period. And this summer is going to be crazy! NCAA sanctioned for the first time, everyone is going to be coming through Barry Farms. And by everyone, I mean everyone. Kevin Durant, Michael Beasley, Donte Greene, Ty Lawson, John Wall, Josh Selby, Will Barton, Aquille Carr and many, many more. With that, our fam at The Mars Reel have put together the official summer 2011 preview.
No one saw this coming. Dallas is a good team, but nobody thought they could come into L.A. and take both games. The Lakers are clearly struggling, and unraveled in the fourth quarter yesterday, giving in to the Mavs’ ball movement and going for home-run shots on the other end.
Andrew Bynum was the only Laker who exceeded expectations, rumbling to 18 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-for-11 from the field). But to the center, the problem isn’t Dallas. It’s the Lakers. Read More »
Last night, Dallas took the Lakers’ panic temperature and shot that thing through the roof. It’s all about faith now. Faith, and a whole lot of drugs. Something needs to wake up Pau Gasol and slow down Dirk Nowitzki…and J.J. Barea? What? The little guy was the difference in the second half of Dallas’ 93-81 Game 2 win, completely taking over the fourth quarter. We’ve heard the Mavs were as soft as cupcakes for nearly a decade now. Well, someone definitely left them joints in the oven too long. This team is playing hard as a rock … Read More »
Tomorrow marks a big day. And I’m not talking about Cinco de Mayo or Harold Miner‘s birthday. Rather, tomorrow marks the official U.S. retail launch of the Jordan Fly Wade, Dwyane Wade‘s first signature shoe with Jordan Brand and the lightest Jordan basketball shoe to date. To celebrate the nationwide launch, comedian/actor and co-star of Jordan Brand’s Dominate Another Day commercial series, Kevin Hart, will offer a behind the scenes look at the shoe at the House of Hoops in Miami’s Dadeland Mall. Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin was officially named the NBA Rookie of the Year Wednesday afternoon in Playa Vista, Calif., finally putting to rest a decision that, I don’t know, everyone knew was going to happen since early November.
With the award now in hand, Griffin becomes the NBA’s first unanimous Rookie of the Year since David Robinson was crowned ROY in 1990. He also collected all possible first-place votes, with rooks John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins respectively following suit behind. In a very crowded gym at the Clips’ practice facility this afternoon, Griffin talked about his progression in his first season as a pro. Read More »
It’s been 14 years since Atlanta and Chicago have faced off in the NBA Playoffs. But ironically, 14 years ago, they too met in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, with the Bulls running away with the homecourt advantage and a No. 1 seed before the Hawks came into Chicago and stole one of the first two games. This series is more memorable for the way the Bulls crushed Atlanta through the final three nights, and for Michael Jordan‘s facial on Dikembe Mutombo. But through two-and-a-half games, Atlanta was arguably the better team. Check out their Game 2 upset:
While playing Call of Duty online, have you ever wondered if you had ever faced off with an NBA player unknowingly? If you’re a first-person shooting fiend, chances are that it’s a possibility. New Jersey’s Deron Williams and Sacramento’s Tyreke Evans are two more NBA players who say they love to play the popular video game franchise, Call of Duty.
Yesterday with the much-anticipated release of “Escalation,” the second map pack (four new multiplayer maps, ranging from a luxurious Cuban hotel to a Russian farm town, and one Zombie experience) for “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” the two NBA stars got to head out to Treyarch Studios in Santa Monica, California to check out the new maps. They faced off in an epic Grudge Match to determine which of the two was nicer on the sticks. Read More »
Blake Griffin was far and away the best dunker in the NBA this season. While he didn’t lead the league in the number of rims abused, he was the most memorable. His performance in the Slam Dunk Contest – no matter how you feel about the Kia – will be talked about for years to come.
But unless you’ve never been on YouTube before, you know there are dudes out there who can give the Clippers forward a run for his money. Taurian Fontenette aka “Air Up There” and “Mr. 720″ might be the best dunker in the entire world, and now he wants a shot at BG. Read More »
No one can deny that Jamal Crawford is doing his thing in the NBA Playoffs. And most people know that he’s been doing his thing for a minute. But I guarantee even some of Jay Cee’s and Jay-Z‘s biggest fans forgot about this gem for the Reebok S. Carter. Enjoy!
Despite finishing the season with the NBA’s worst record, Minnesota’s Kevin Love is having a banner year. First he was named an All-Star, then the league’s Most Improved Player, and now he’s received perhaps his greatest honor of all: the NBA’s Best Smelling Player Award. Read More »
