Denver Must Bring Back Nene

Nene

For everything they accomplished in the second half of this season – busting through all of the Carmelo trade rumors, mixing in a few new players with the old and securing a five-seed in the West – none of it will matter next season if the Nuggets don’t resign Nene.

While he probably won’t ever reach the All-Star potential most saw in him (he’s now 28 years old), the Brazilian is Denver’s rock. He’s their only inside presence and one of the few legitimate centers who can keep up the pace in that high altitude. But after years of sacrificing, he says he wants to be rewarded. The Nuggets should be smart and give him what he wants. Read More »

Who’s Better: Zach Randolph Or LaMarcus Aldridge?

LaMarcus Aldridge

No post players took bigger leaps this year than LaMarcus Aldridge and Zach Randolph. For LA, it was about taking control of a team that desperately needed leadership once Greg Oden and Brandon Roy were both lost to injuries. For Z-Bo, it was about changing a perception that he was selfish, a guy who never passed once the ball came down to him.

While only one of them is still playing, both had the best seasons of their careers. Now, the next step is making the leap to perennial All-Stars. Which power forward is better? That’s a tough question. Read More »

Report: Derrick Rose Wins NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award

Derrick Rose

You could say we had a feeling. Sometimes you just know. But when we sent Dime #63 to the printers six weeks ago, we took a chance by declaring Derrick Rose the NBA’s Most Valuable Player – Chicago’s first since the G.O.A.T. himself. Was it risky? Sure. LeBron could have picked it up for a third year in a row. Dwight Howard, channelling Hakeem Olajuwon, could have altered history. But we knew when it was all said and done, at 22 years old, Rose would become the youngest MVP in league history. Read More »

Josh Smith Gets Dunked On By Carlos Boozer And Joakim Noah

Yes, Josh Smith is normally on the other end of a poster dunk, but I feel like J-Smoove is alright taking a blow to his ego after leaving Game 1 in Chicago with a win.

Dirk Is In The House, Facing Down A Decade Of Stereotypes

Dirk Nowitzki

Watching Dirk Nowitzki is amazing. Any daylight, and it’s automatic. He makes the most awkward shots look routine. Last night, he made the biggest plays in one of Dallas’ largest wins of the last few years. Clutch? Hell yes. Behind the German, Dallas stole Game 1, 96-94, their resilient attitude a roadmap to a potential upset. No one in a Lakers uni stepping up to stop Dirk helps as well … Kobe Bryant (36 points) had a great look to win it, but his trey was just long. … Read More »

Clip Of The Day: Mel Gibson NBA Encouragement Parody

After the resounding success of the NBA’s “Encouragement” campaign, where they had current people talking to NBA superstars when they were younger, you were hoping someone was going to take this idea and run with it. Thankfully, people did. After checking out these four spots, and one starring Lindsay Lohan, watch Mel Gibson before his fall from greatness.

The Lakers And Mavs: Two Friends Reunited After 23 Years

Kobe Bryant

For so long, it was up to 2K to get a playoff series of Kobe vs. Dirk. It felt like they were avoiding each other, two prize fighters coming up with excuses to never meet in the ring. We could never get what we wanted, all we wanted. Just one series: Dallas and L.A. Germany vs. Italy. The flowing mane of hair vs. the balding one. Finally, after years of avoidance, it’s going to happen. It starts tonight. Read More »
