With the NBA Pre-Draft Camp going on in Chicago, potential No. 1 pick Kyrie Irving is in the house, but not taking part in the drills. So while you can’t see him on the court on ESPNU, check out the future NBA point guard going through a workout in New Jersey with veteran NBA strength and conditioning coach Robin Pound.
For a while, we thought it was an act. It became a game: what does he do away from the court? Who hangs out with him? Does he ever smile? Now it’s hard to tell. Does Kendrick Perkins like anyone? A lot of people think he’s lost something since coming over to OKC from Boston. He doesn’t look as tough, isn’t making as big of an impact. But he’s definitely still hating people. Read More »
Two superstars. One city. Chicago produces talent every year, but it’s still amazing to think that Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade are both from the CHI and are now playing each other for a trip to the NBA Finals. Check out this video with two of their siblings talking about the paths it took for them to get here.
The dunk may be the most efficient method for securing two points, but it has evolved into the most visible platform for pure power, unbridled enthusiasm and exuberant jubilation. In the grand scheme of basketball, one basket midway through the game does little to change the outcome. Yet we cannot help but celebrate the supreme athleticism of the dunker and the abject misery of the dunked-upon. But our love, however cruel it may be to witness for the defeated, is honest. It is why thousands upload these moments of sovereignty and humiliation to YouTube on a daily basis. When Taj Gibson posterized Dwyane Wade in Game 1, I was obligated to relive the past glory of other immortalized playoff dunks. Here are, in descending order, the Top 10 NBA Playoff Dunks of the 21st Century. Read More »

But was this year a passing of the torch? Have we seen the last of Kobe Bryant‘s reign? Is Dwyane Wade really better than him? Or will the Black Mamba come back next year refocused and eager to take his throne and cement his place as the best two-guard in the game? Read More »

If you read Sean Sweeney’s piece on Udonis Haslem yesterday, you kind of expected something like this to happen. But beating out LeBron with two SportsCenter-worthy dunks? I don’t think anyone saw that coming. That is, anyone but Udonis Haslem.
This is LeBron‘s personal retribution tour. Whenever we think we have him figured out, have the Heat pinned down to finally wilt and fall apart against better “teams,” the NBA’s Most Hated steps up. He closed out Boston, ended any chance their reign had of surviving. And late last night, with Chicago pushing hard for what could’ve been a commanding 2-0 lead, LeBron hit a three, then hit one tough pull-up J after another. In the last four-and-a-half minutes, the score was ‘Bron: 9 and the Bulls: 2. Read More »
Dirk Nowitzki‘s scalding destruction of the Thunder last night was one of the best shooting performances in NBA history. It was so good, Dirk had people suddenly vaulting him into the discussion with the best players ever. While Nowitzki will ultimately be considered one of the 20 best players in the game’s history, he needs a capper. He needs that ring. That way when he walks into a room, Barkley and Malone and Reggie all have to shut up. Amazing right? Read More »
