Top 10 New Shaq Nicknames

Shaquille O'Neal

When Shaquille O’Neal officially retired last week after 19 seasons, he left the NBA as one of the most dominant big men of all time. O’Neal won four championships and three straight NBA Finals MVPs, but his personality just might be the most memorable part of his career. At no time was this more evident than when Shaq would give us his self-proclaimed nicknames such as “The Big Aristotle” and “Shaqfu” to name a few. So in honor of Shaq’s retirement, we passed the duties on to the fans. Here are the top 10 new nicknames given to him from musical legends Chuck D and 9th Wonder to college students: Read More »

NBA Trade Rumors: Where Will Andre Iguodala Land?

Andre Iguodala

Andre Iguodala was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers, and soon enough, he was labeled the replacement for an aging Allen Iverson. That didn’t happen and Iguodala seems just fine with that, adapting into a role where dropping eight points, seven assists and nine rebounds is a solid outing – he’s not under the pressure of LeBron James to do any more. Well, at least not outside of Philadelphia.

Sixers fans don’t see it the same way, and they’ve let him know about it. Now, Philadelphia is looking to unload Iguodala, and it’s likely they will try to obtain a more impactful scorer in exchange for the 6-6, 207-pound wing. With that, here’s a look at some teams with rumored interest in Iguodala and how he might fit in with them. Read More »

Dime Q&A: Kyle Singler Talks NBA Draft, Duke & Trick Shots

Kyle Singler

After winning the national championship at Duke last season, many people expected Kyle Singler to take off for the NBA with his draft stock soaring. But the allure of the League couldn’t overcome the allure of returning to Duke for his senior season, which is exactly what Kyle did. Now, a year later, the tough, hard-nosed player from Medford, Ore. is ready to fulfill his NBA dreams. I caught up with Kyle at the Nets’ draft workouts this week and he talked about his draft prospects, Coach K and trick shots. Read More »

The NBA Finals: Best Game 5s Ever

Dwyane Wade

You don’t need me to point out that tonight is the biggest game of the season. Massive. Enormous. Undertaker-huge. Rings are resting on these 48 minutes. The winners of Game 5s in the Finals win the series 77% of the time. If Miami wins, wrap it up. If Dallas wins, they have a death grip on it.

Because of the 2-3-2 format, Game 5s always seem to carry some type of legendary stench. The air is stuffy with expectations and formality. Just look at tonight, at all of the storylines. Read More »

Dos And Don’ts Of Courtside Seats

The Other Guys

We’ve seen it far too often in the NBA. Corporate elites married to their BlackBerrys occupy the best seats in the house, relegating the beer-drinking, obnoxiously chanting fans to the inaudible back corners of the arena. At first it brought tears to my eyes, watching the heart of the NBA, the fans, being pushed away from the action. But now that it’s an undeniable facet of every NBA arena, we have to accept it. Mavs Keep Talking; Philly Keeps Shopping Iguodala

Andre Iguodala

Look who’s at it again. After making some disparaging remarks towards D-Wade and LeBron after Game 3 (calling the duo “great actors”), our boy DeShawn Stevenson is back again – this time calling out LeBron for “checking out” in Game 4. Now usually Abe’s commentary has us thinking “What did he say?” but this time the dude might be on to something. Read More »

Saint Mary’s Point Guard Drafted By The Los Angeles… Dodgers

Mickey McConnell

In the most recent issue of Dime, I wrote a story on Saint Mary’s point guard Mickey McConnell and his odd trip as an unknown basketball prospect to being a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award for the NCAA’s best point guard. Despite being wooed by some of the nation’s best baseball programs during his senior year of high school, McConnell chose hoops. In four years, he grew by leaps and bounds.

He hasn’t picked up a glove in that time span, but Major League Baseball apparently didn’t notice. Read More »

Oscar Robertson Says Michael Jordan Wasn’t The Best Ever

Oscar Robertson

How annoyed are some of the NBA’s older generations about all of this talk on GOATs and Best Evers only including Michael Jordan and LeBron James? Ask Oscar Robertson about it.

Well, the Dan Sileo Show did and as expected, the Big O had other ideas. Read More »
