Conversation is the focal point of sports. We endlessly strive for absolutes when none exist. We make lists and rankings. We compare. And ultimately we arrive at arbitrary, widely accepted conclusions that inform the conventional conscience. We saw that manifest itself in Dime’s 1-on-1 Tournament. When Dirk dealt those deathblows to Kobe and ‘Melo, many of you scoffed. Angrily. When D-Wade decimated LeBron and any semblance of self-respect he had in the reserve tanks, you shook your head. Some moments live on forever. This is one of those moments. I’m sure Chris Childs still talks to his boys about this, while Kobe has added some hardware to the mantle that’s allowed him to forget. Now, UNDRCRWN gives you a chance to read between the pixels to see hoop history repeat itself. Read More »
Thanks to the U.S. women’s soccer team (see Morgan, Alex), my level of national pride has crept its way into unchartered territories. We half-heartedly watched the USA vs. France game in the Dime office the other day, most of us only paying attention when the U.S. had the ball. Of course, I was guilty of this too being that I’ve never been much of soccer fan. Read More »
If you know anything about Seattle, you know that all the hometown kids make it back for the summer. And what does that mean? Crazy action at the annual Jamal Crawford Summer Pro-Am at Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club. In addition to University of Washington stars like Nate Robinson, Isaiah Thomas, Tre Simmons and Donald Watts, incoming freshman star Tony Wroten Jr. went at NBA guys like John Wall and Terrence Williams.
I haven’t watched the ESPYs in years, but because of an unadulterated man crush on Seth Meyers, I decided to tune in this Wednesday. Thankfully I wasn’t disappointed. Despite there being an NBA lockout, basketball stole the show. From Seth’s monologue to the “Lockout Professionals,” the NBA was front and center. And no one got more love than everyone’s favorite German, Dirk Nowitzki. With that, check out “Dirk Nowitzki’s Basketball Camp” featuring Saturday Night Live stars Meyers and Bill Hader. And in case you were wondering, the sketch was directed and co-written by comedian Neal Brennan, co-creator of Chappelle’s Show.
We told y’all about the news earlier this week, but yesterday it became official: Shaq is a part of the squad at TNT and Inside The NBA. He’ll be a full-time analyst. Okay, lets take bets: who’s the first player he takes a shot at? Kobe? D-Wade? Steve Nash? And how often will they play that clip from the Barkley/O’Neal fight from back in the day? Once a show? We’re assuming C-Webb gets the boot, but that’s alright. He’s a better-than-good commentator who was being overshadowed in the studio. Read More »
God Shammgod. The best ball-handler of all-time? Possibly. The worst part about it? There is hardly any footage of him. Today, I was going through some old links/websites/YouTube videos on my favorites and found this. Not great quality, but I don’t care so I assume some of y’all won’t either. Ignore the random Taliek Brown highlight…
As much as I hated school growing up (I used to fall asleep…every day…in three or four different classes…all the way through college…no matter if I was in the front row or back…out of pure boredom), there was something exciting about that first day back. When you were really young, back when you did things like pull on a chick’s hair or throws tiny rocks at them to tell them “Hey. I like you” the first day of school didn’t matter so much. It was a joke anyways – the majority of teachers worn down and frustrated from dealing with sugar-raged kids who can’t shut up. Read More »
The day before the NBA lockout began, we showed you what NBA.com was going to look like. But one facet of the site that no one was really talking about was NBAStore.com – your one-stop shopping destination for all your NBA gear needs. And with the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue in New York City having been closed since February, NBA fans searching for their favorite player’s jersey were in limbo. Read More »
For being a real menace, foot problems always get overlooked. If someone has knee surgery, it’s okay if they come back a little slow. They’re working themselves back into shape. If someone has a wrecked and twisted back, bash the maker for giving them back luck. We rarely hear anyone talk about feet outside of the mammoth one-timers like Yao Ming or Bill Walton. No one was supposed to ever get that big. Broken feet are only a byproduct. That’s the perception. Read More »
