I’ll be honest. I’ve never watched this show. But the momentum behind Breaking Bad is gaining steam. I haven’t heard one negative thing about it, and so come Sunday, I will probably be checking it out. Anyone who has seen it, tell me: Is it worth it?

Damien Wilkins‘ last few deals with NBA teams read something like this: signed one-year minimum unguaranteed contract, waived, 10-day contract, another 10-day contract and finally, guaranteed for remainder of season. Here’s to guessing Dominique‘s nephew doesn’t have the digs of multi-millionaire basketball players like monster truck meister Joe Johnson.
That means they don’t have as much closet space, which becomes an issue for Wilkins because like most NBA players, he loves shoes. Read More »

Every year in March the NCAA Tournament rules the basketball world. And each year during March Madness there are Cinderella stories about teams that make magical runs well beyond what anyone would have expected of them. On each of these teams there is a folk hero, one player who defines the team’s magical run. In 2011 that folk hero was Butler’s Matt Howard. With his shaggy hair and long socks, Howard dominated the boards against any opponent who dared come his way and helped lead eighth-seeded Butler to their second consecutive national championship game. In 2008 there was Stephen Curry and his silky-smooth jumper leading Davidson to the Elite Eight. Last year, one that stood out to me was Montana’s Anthony Johnson. Read More »

It’ll be a long summer of He Said, She Said in the NBA. They’ll be rumors, confirmations, denials and breaking news, all of it centered around the viability of NBA players (superstars and role players) playing overseas. We’ll have players like Derrick Rose, who has already put to rest any question that he won’t be playing anywhere but the NBA. We’ll have players like Amar’e Stoudemire, who seems to change his mind nearly every day, while leaving his Twitter followers in his wake. And we’ll probably have some like Deron Williams, who will see an opportunity and go get it. Read More »

Pure Evil.
That was Martin Kessler’s first reaction when I threw out Kobe Bryant’s name. Two years ago, that reputation held water. When we gave all our to LeBron, there was nothing left for Kobe. Great but selfish. Confident bordering on arrogant.
Then LeBron did his whole Miami thing and the tide turned. Our venom shifted to a new and unsuspecting victim. But the question remained: how do we treat Kobe now? Read More »
While everyone normally talks about summer hoops in NYC, L.A. and D.C., you’d be crazy to forget about Raleigh, N.C., and the Greater NC Pro-Am. Known by many as the “Rucker of the South,” this summer league brings out the best from the area, which last night meant Raleigh’s own John Wall going head-to-head with former NC State star Julius Hodge. In front of a packed house of 3,000 people, Wall (12 points) and incoming UNC freshman P.J. Hairston squeaked out a two-point victory over Hodge (20 points), Jawad Williams, Miles Plumlee and incoming Duke freshmen Quinn Cook and Marshall Plumlee.

Two of the greatest power forwards who ever lived. Two of the best 20-25 players of all-time. Two franchise enforcers who never won rings. Two complete opposites, one an out-going, comedian who’s perhaps become more famous since his retirement. The other, a farm boy from Louisiana who dropped out of the limelight the minute he said goodbye to the NBA. Karl Malone and Charles Barkley carried the power forward torch for nearly two decades (two decades that also happened to hold the best collection of big-men talent the game has ever seen). Anxiety, or at the very least excited curiosity, builds up inside us during this time of year. Offseason trades, the draft and coaching moves spur questions and concern. Of course, we were treated to LeBron James‘ “Decision” last season.
So today, without knowing when our questions will be answered and our basketball-loving jitters quelled, let’s play a LeBron-like game of “What should I do?” for some intriguing NBA players that I’m most curious about. Sure, it’s jumping ahead, but these questions also will evolve throughout this downtime and whenever free agency kicks off. What should each player do, and what will happen if they take Route A instead of Route B? Read More »
