It’s been nearly four years since Gilbert Arenas started down this dark path of injuries. He’s had three operations on his left knee, and seen his star, as well as his scoring average (from 29.3 to 8.0 with Orlando), plummet. Still only 29 years old, can Arenas ever make it back to what he once was? Orlando’s GM Otis Smith wants him to, and recently told Agent Zero he doesn’t want him playing any basketball this summer…just rest up and rehab. Read More »
In the new issue of XXL which hits newsstands today, cover guy Lil Wayne talks about the release of his highly anticipated new album, Tha Carter IV, in addition to his retirement plans, Drake and Nicki Minaj’s success, and why he’ll never record with Justin Bieber. But in addition to all that, Weezy takes us back to Sunday, June 12, when he was spotted partying with the Dallas Mavericks at LIV in Miami Beach. If the NBA made a commercial with a talking Larry O’Brien Trophy, this is what it would say: Read More »
One quietly re-signed with his original team. One ensnared the entire NBA in gossip-filled trade speculation. One fades away, pulls up and does whatever it takes to create separation. One thrives on contact, absorbing its reverberation and eventually casting it aside. Both have the late-game pedigree. Both have arguably unstoppable offensive repertoires. Both are built for one-on-one. Read More »
With the NBA lockout keeping them off the hardwood, you didn’t think that Blake Griffin and Kevin Love would put aside their competitiveness as well. I didn’t think so. So watch the two All-Stars battle it out in a vicious game of 1-on-1 before the 2011 ESPYs.
Looks like Iggy recently had a change of heart. Philly’s long-time swingman stated his intention to stay a Sixer. Truthfully, it’s all words until players sign on the dotted line. At the same time, we halfway wish the Monta Ellis/Andre Igoudala trade actually happened. Philly’s team defense pretty much got them into the playoffs but they couldn’t buy a bucket on the perimeter. Meanwhile, Golden State has all the offense in the world but continually comes up short on the other end. Ellis and Igoudala’s talents as a scorer and a stopper respectively fill in team needs quite well. So what’s the hold up? Read More »
Raekwon and Nas go waaaay back, so any time they get together on a track, it feels right and takes us all back to the mid-1990s. Just a few days ago, the Chef released the video for his new song with NaS, “Rich And Black,” a low-budget clip that’s basically nothing but the rappers partying in Oslo, Norway.
Toronto didn’t kill on the court this season, but at least they found out DeMar DeRozan is a keeper. Now with the dominating play of Jonas Valanciunas this summer in the U19 World Championships, things might be turning around for the Raptors. If anything, they’re at least holding it down in the sneaker game, as witnessed by these player exclusives for DeRozan. Read More »
While we might’ve seen this coming – the end of the road for Yao Ming – we weren’t ready for it just yet. Now the next phase in Yao’s life has all but begun. Gone will be the 20/10 nights. Gone will be the All-Star games. And gone will be any chance at a championship.
The focus has shifted to his place in history. Is he a Hall of Fame player? Some say he didn’t do enough on the court, and that should be the only thing that matters. Others say his overall impact was greater than probably half of the players already elected into the Hall of Fame. Read More »
Before last Friday’s show at the Improv in Hollywood, Ron Artest had never been on a comedy club stage in his life. So if you’re wondering what Metta World Peace put together for his set, thankfully the Los Angeles Times were able to get up with him.
Either the Kevin Durant venom is more widespread than I thought or the love affair with Monta Ellis is more than a fling. Either way, Durant only skated by with a three-vote victory thanks to some last-second faithfuls. He may not be so lucky this week. Read More »
