The Celtics Won’t Win Another Title Without A Breakup

Boston Celtics

It’s common knowledge that defense wins championships.

Any sports fan will tell you that the reason Paul Pierce lit up a cigar, Kevin Garnett told us that anything is possible, and the Boston Celtics raised their 17th championship banner is because of one thing: defense. Read More »

A Historical Look At 1998′s NBA Lockout Commercials

Grant Hill & Tim Duncan

There’s nothing funny about an NBA lockout, but that’s not to say that it can’t inspire some hilarious TV commercials. Back in 1998, Nike and Sprite stepped up to the plate with two campaigns that brought some levity to a pretty dreadful situation. Nike’s 15- and 30-second spots featured celebrity basketball fans Spike Lee, Dyan Cannon, Jackie Chan, Steve Guttenberg and Samuel L. Jackson seeking alternative basketball outlets, while Sprite had Grant Hill and Tim Duncan (somehow in NBA jerseys) looking for work. Read More »

Play Rajon Rondo In H-O-R-S-E

Rajon Rondo

Just because there’s a lockout going on doesn’t mean there isn’t basketball being played. And with no summer leagues or training camps keeping NBA players occupied, that just means you have more time to hang out with them, right? Exactly. So for any Rajon Rondo fans out there, you’re in luck: Rondo is going to fly a lucky fan to his camp in Louisville on July 15 to play him in a game of H-O-R-S-E. Read More »

Then & Now: Comparing The Last NBA Lockout To The Current One

Titanic

Well, the NBA lockout has arrived. We’ve seen it coming for a while, but now that it’s here, the fact that we may not have an NBA season come fall is starting to sink in. Will Smith

Here we are again. It feels like just yesterday when a lockout starved fans of most of the 1998-99 season. Since then, there have been too many storylines to keep complete track of, but some things never change. The players and the NBA management butting heads is happening all over again.

Though some parts of human nature – greed – never change, pop music doesn’t stop and wait for David Stern to give in to demands. Looking back, here’s some top hits of 1998 and what the song titles can lend in knowledge about the basketball world comparing then and now. Read More »

LeBron James Dunks On A Kid During A Game Of Knockout

I think there’s an old saying that goes something like, “Get off the tracks when the train’s coming through.” That saying applies here. At least he helped him up afterwards…

The Apocalypse Is Here

Tyson Chandler

Well it’s here. Doomsday is upon us. Nothing will be the same, not even NBA.com. Team websites will be gloomy (except that we’ll probably be smothered with photos/videos of dance teams/cheerleaders). The owners and players are still miles apart, with much of the tension focused on this hard cap that the suits seem obsessed with inserting. Plus, the players’ latest proposal was pretty much mocked out loud in public by David Stern and Adam Silver. Read More »
