Make sure you check out Episode 2 after the jump.
And you thought we would never see anything resembling the Malice at the Palace again. In what may turn out to be one of the worst brawls in recent memory, the Georgetown Hoyas left with nine minutes remaining in a tied game with the Bayi Rockets of China for fear of escalating danger. The game was physical right from the start, and with the Olympic Sports Center Stadium’s security doing nothing about it, the violence only worsened as the game neared its finish. Read More »
While I tend to disagree, people often say that high school basketball is “the last pure platform of the sport.” Where the NBA and even college ball have become all about business (see: lockout, NCAA Tournament ad dollars), high school hoop is played primarily for the love of the game. (I mean, those were my glory days.) So thankfully this fall HBO is coming out with a documentary, Prayer For A Perfect Season, on New Jersey basketball powerhouse St. Patrick High School (Elizabeth, N.J.) after following them throughout the 2010-11 season. If you’re Leon Washington, Brad Smith, Devin Hester or any other NFL kick returner, you’ve probably been fuming for a while. Moving the kickoff line forward five yards to the 35-yard line will change the game. Drastically. And it’ll probably lose some of these return guys money. Will it work out? Well the thinking is it’ll protect the players. How much it changes one of the most exciting plays in the game is secondary in the league’s eyes. Read More »
In case you were unaware, Foot Locker and Nike are doin’ it big this fall with some amazing releases and an amazing campaign to go with ‘em. With that, watch Amar’e Stoudemire, Rajon Rondo and Blake Griffin alongside the likes of Larry Fitzgerald and Anna Pierce in The Educators. And make sure you check out the Foot Locker Advantage Academy for individual lessons.
Kevin Love has been making himself heard lately, saying that the latest offer from the owners was unacceptable. Love declared his interest in compromising, but also his honest opinion that NBA games will most likely be missed. A scary thought from the Timberwolves power forward. This lockout is enough to get us depressed. Talk of missed games – someone’s going to have to talk us off a ledge … Read More »
Tyrus Thomas is one of the NBA’s largest enigmas. One of the league’s foremost “Holy s—!” athletes, he’s never really developed the rest of his game, hasn’t advanced like say, the guy he was traded for on draft night, LaMarcus Aldridge. While Thomas isn’t a full-time starter, he’s also one of the best off-the-bench big men in the league. For a guy who was nearly a No. 1 overall pick, he hasn’t really panned out, but also hasn’t been labeled a bust either. He’s just sort of here, going weeks without anyone noticing him (until he gives us one of his patented “Holy s—!” moments). Now on his birthday (he turns 25 today), I’m reminiscing about how I believed he should’ve been the undisputed No. 1 pick that night in 2006 after watching the way he dominated at LSU.
If you’ve been following along with Team Nike this summer up at Dyckman Park, then you probably already know that they’re playing in the championship game tonight against Ooh Way Records. The last time these two teams met, let’s just say the Swoosh got beat. But to celebrate the ‘chip and the rematch tonight, Nike Basketball is releasing a limited edition pack of the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011s that Team Nike has been wearing this summer. Check ‘em out: Read More »
Why couldn’t our high school, or even college, be this cool? Honestly, when you have a class setting that includes Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook, Baron Davis and Diddy, what exactly could the professors be teaching them? Read More »
