Gary Forbes Drops 78 Points At The Greater Hartford Pro-Am

It seems like Gary Forbes has been playing everywhere in New York this summer. So why not leave NYC and do some work at the Greater Hartford Pro-Am? Well, 78 points later, that’s exactly what he did. Oh yeah, and UConn’s Jeremy Lamb had 63 in this game in the loss.

The NBA’s Summer MVP

Kevin Durant

While we don’t know exactly where Kevin Durant will be playing this winter, we do know he’ll make a decision by October. In the meantime, we will have to just catch this summer’s undisputed MVP continue to murder the summer league scene. After dropping another easy 44 in a Goodman League game this weekend, KD told the Washington Post that while he is weighing his overseas options, just like everyone else, he doesn’t want to rush into anything. Kendrick Perkins Arrested & Baby Shaq Shuts It Down In D.C.

Kendrick Perkins

Kendrick Perkins was arrested early yesterday morning after he was attempting to start a fight with a club manager and was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and public intoxication at a Houston club. ‘Perk was apparently being pushed out of the back by a large crowd after trying to start a fight, and then continued to talk smack and start other fights as he went out. Our prediction on what actually happened? Perkins hit someone with the ‘Perk mean mug and everything broke loose. Read More »

David Stern Hopeful NBA Season Can Be Saved; Hall Of Fame Class Officially Enshrined

Corey Maggette

David Stern says he doesn’t think the entire season will be lost, explaining there’s too much at stake, too much to lose. We want to believe him, but we’ve heard the song before. While many outsiders are assuming a mass flood of players going to Europe and China would put enormous pressure on Stern and the NBA, the commish isn’t worried. He told Bill Simmons: “All that stuff is better to read about than to actually do.” Ouch … Read More »

The Best Basketball League You’ve Never Heard Of

mini basketball

A little over 12 months ago, Rob Elderton and two of his high school buddies were struggling to find players to fill out the rosters for a new basketball league they were setting up in their hometown of Shelburne, Vt.

“We had some trouble finding 30 guys, so we had to go a little out of our class,” recalls Elderton. “We went with some kids that were really young and some that were a few years older than us.”

Boy does that feel like a long time ago. Read More »

NBA Records That Won’t Be Broken

Shaquille O'Neal

Bill Russell‘s 11 NBA championships. Wilt‘s 100-point *insert noun that is exponentially better than “outburst” here.* Oscar Robertson‘s 41 triple-doubles in 79 games during the 1961-62 season. Call me ignorant, but I don’t think they’ll ever break. All these things we’re aware of, but we’re also conscious they’ll never be topped because they were set in a different era.

There’s always lesser records to be broken, however. You want your name cemented into NBA history? There’s ways to do it other than winning a lot or dropping buckets. Read More »

Who’s In, Who’s Out: Predicting NBA Players’ Hall Of Fame Credentials

LeBron James

I’ve never really been able to adequately articulate my Hall of Fame frustration. And it’s not unique to basketball. What are the criteria? Nothing and everything. Who votes? I have no idea. In a recent attempt to satisfy my growing frustration, I scoured the Internet for a list of voters and came up with squat. Not because my googling abilities are subpar, but because it’s not publicly listed. So not only do we not know who’s voting, we have no idea why they vote one way or the other. Read More »

Feast Or Famine: The McDonald’s All-American Game

Amar'e Stoudemire

Every year, I watch players in high school, stars in high school, and think to myself: “Damn, that kid is on his way to big things.” It’s always hard to sort out the truth from the phonies because at that level, all of them look like future beasts. This guy, he’s the next KG … This guy is the next Amar’e … He reminds me a lot of Tim Duncan. No one compares a high school All-American to Jason Collins or Delonte West or Ronnie Brewer. Roy Hibbert Shut Down In Nike Pro City Championship

Nike Pro City

It looked like the deck was stacked against Dyckman/NYAC. It’s top player, Marshon Brooks, was absent for the third game in a row. It’s starting point guard from the conclusion of the regular season, Louis Dale, was in Europe. And the squad it was slated to go up against looked more like a mediocre NBA team from the future than your typical summer league squad.

But against a lineup that featured the NBA’s Roy Hibbert and Sundiata Gaines, the D-League’s Andre Barrett, and Florida’s Erving Walker, Dyckman/NYAC pulled off a convincing 110-88 victory against the defending champions last night at the Nike Pro City Championship. Read More »

Herb Magee: The Real Best College Basketball Coach Ever

Herb Magee

Mike Krzyzewski won his 900th career game on March 20, 2011 after his Duke Blue Devils defeated the Michigan Wolverines in the 3rd round of the NCAA Tournament. Four days later in the Sweet Sixteen, the top-seeded Blue Devils were upset by Derrick Williams and the Arizona Wildcats.

Coach K will need three wins to pass his mentor and former coach at Army, Bob Knight, to become the all-time wins leader in the history of Division I men’s basketball.

Although 903 victories is a monumental milestone, it will still leave him almost two dozen wins behind the NCAA’s all-time leader. Read More »
