In the aftermath of Watch The Throne hype-induced comas, with everyone walking around like sheep, Common and Nas dropped a dope video for Common’s joint “Ghetto Dreams” off his album The Dreamer The Believer which comes out this fall. Com is my dude, but I LOVE Nas if you haven’t noticed by now. This record will be a good addition to my library (I’m on a never-ending quest to own every piece of music Nas has ever jumped on). You can also find “Ghetto Dreams” on iTunes. Hit the jump for a crazy throwback picture of the two emcees.

When Floyd Mayweather Jr. and “Sugar” Shane Mosley took center stage on HBO’s hit program “24/7″, they sat across a table from each other in a room that looked like one of the interrogation chambers from “Law and Order”. They bickered back and forth as Max Kellerman moderated:
Mosley:Remember at the Olympics at Turin, when you first was comin’ up, what were those words you said to me?
Mayweather:Whatever I said, I don’t remember. You can refresh my memory, but I still don’t remember.Read More »
Darius Johnson-Odom blew up so much this past season at Marquette that we had him write us a running blog of Marquette’s deep tournament run. But even we didn’t know he could dunk like this. In the Greater North Carolina Pro-Am earlier this week, DJO caught a lob from Austin Rivers and gave it a little Vince Carter twist. Straight nasty. See another baseline view of it within a top 10 list (at 1:36) after the jump.
It feels funny actually writing about a player who ISN’T thinking about going overseas. As marcus the great wrote in Smack today: wouldnt it be more of a news flash if we reported on players NOT interested in playing overseas? i know its slow and all, but every day its like Player X might look into a foreign league.” Well, here you go: Dwight Howard, despite reports that he was interested in China, will not be looking to play overseas. The stipulations the CBA put in regarding NBA players (no opt-out clauses) has caused the big man to back off. So instead, he’ll do the only sensible thing it seems for NBA superstars to do nowadays: go to Hakeem Olajuwon camp. Read More »
Will Bynum knows all about overcoming. He made it out of tough, inner-city Chicago, flourished at times in college before having to find himself all over again as a player in Israel. Since earning his way back into the NBA with the Pistons, Bynum staked his claim to a roster spot and a guaranteed place in the league. Read More »
Back in the day, real summer battles meant two players going back and forth, D-ing each other up and playing for respect. At times, it’s felt like those battles have gotten lost over the years. But Brandon Jennings and Josh Selby are bringing it back this year. We showed you their first showdown back in July that had the hoop world buzzing. Now here’s the rematch with Jennings dropping 25-30 and hitting several ridiculous threes while Selby again went for 40+ points.
As the NBA lockout lingers on like a bad hangover, more overseas talk continues to infiltrate the media airwaves. Carlos Boozer will pursue signing with a foreign club if the NBA fails to start on time. Boozer noted that his time spent with Team USA changed his life, an experience that has contributed to his decision to play overseas. And you can’t blame the guy. Boozer loves the game and will go anywhere in the world to continuing playing. And oh by the way, the pay ain’t bad either … Read More »
Last week I spoke to All Day Basketball about their crazy trick shots and the future of their group. I’ve always had a sneaking suspicion that trick shots aren’t that hard, so I figured I’d go out and try some out myself. Well, I was wrong. Check out the video below as we fail miserably. (I’m in the orange shirt.) More importantly, there’s a crucial NYC streetball lesson at the end.
We’ve got a birthday today. Nostalgic for some, painful for others. No matter what direction your biased heart strings guide you, it’s hard not to appreciate John Starks. He was short but he could score. He walked around with a swaggering bravado that compelled him to think a left-handed dunk, over two Chicago Bulls, with 40 seconds left in the game, in the playoffs, was a good idea. There’s just something about the Marv Albert call, the crowd – it’s momentous. It’s not about Jordan not even getting totally posterized, or Patrick Ewing blatantly shoving the guy he set a pick on. When something like this happens, you subconsciously make a mental note and add it to the goose bump memory bank. You know, when you’re surfing YouTube, hoping to vicariously relive someone else’s glory. I do it all the time with this Steve Gerrard goal that allowed Liverpool to advance in the Champions League.
