We wrote a few nights back that Nate Robinson was either seriously thinking of trying the NFL or he was just having some fun at the expense of Pete Carroll. The Seahawks coach didn’t look at it as a joke, and now it’s apparent neither did Nate. He told HOOPSWORLD: “I mean, why not? It has always been one of my dreams to play in the NFL and right now, the opportunity is presenting itself so I think it’s pretty much a sign from God. I’m looking forward to trying out, having fun and showing the world that, as long as you put your mind to it, you can play any sport you want.” Read More »
Dwyane Wade says he would absolutely listen to offers in China if something came up down the road. Wade has great business sense, and if business and money is what these guys are after, then China is where they need to be. The European leagues have much better competition, but if it’s really about the money, then China is the spot to hit. Someone can build a global empire over there. But will it be D-Wade? … Read More »
Ever since we dropped Dime #64 with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook on the cover, people have been telling us how much they like the issue. So before our next issue drops, we want to take you behind the scenes of our photo shoot with Wesley Matthews. We shot Wes at his crib outside Portland, and had the cameras there to capture what went down. Check it out and let us know what you think…
In February, word broke that Dwyane Wade was entering into a strategic partnership with Swiss luxury watch brand Hublot. This week during his trip to the Forbidden City in Beijing, he finally debuted the project that they’d been working on: the King Power, a unique timepiece limited to only 500 pieces. Check it out: Read More »
Friday afternoons used to be the best time in middle school. That was when the most heated arguments always unfolded because no one cared about school (not that we ever did, but it got worse after about 11 on a Friday) and even the teachers were throwing glances at the clock every 15 minutes. Back then, it was a daily thing to stretch and weave people’s names. Up until that time, I had been called Weeney probably close to 4,000 times. Read More »
In March, I wrote a story about the astonishing decline of former Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl. I talked about how in one year’s time, Pearl had taken Tennessee the furthest they had ever gone, reaching the Elite Eight in 2010, to being mired in scandal. Pearl was eventually fired, along with his three assistant coaches. Pearl was the face of Tennessee Basketball for the six years he coached in Knoxville, and with his charisma and outgoing personality making him a hit in the college basketball community, most thought it wouldn’t be long before he was coaching in a position of prominence yet again. And that appears to be happening, with the D-League’s Texas Legends pursuing him hard to be their next head coach. Read More »
Some moments live on forever. And for Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Dwight Howard, these dunks are surely one of those moments. Now, Oakland-based clothing company Oiseau gives you a chance to re-live history – that is, with a twist. Remember, if you give a mouse a cookie… Read More »
Don’t you all feel like something was stolen from you? Yao Ming. He could’ve been one of the greats, should’ve been one of the greats. But science and physics took him away from us this summer, and for good this time. After the big man missed just two games through his first three NBA seasons, Yao played over 57 in a season just once for the rest of his career. With a number of foot and ankle problems that never quite healed, Yao called it quits at 30 because his body couldn’t take it anymore. Read More »
So today on Twitter I asked what everyone thought Patrick Ewing was doing for his birthday tonight, and predictably, the most popular response was “Is the Gold Club still open?” Other highlights: “Traveling” and “sweating profusely.” All very appropriate responses. Ewing never won a title, and some will say he didn’t totally live up to the hype, but he still scored 24,815 points and pulled down 11,607 rebounds. Take him out of the equation and what do Knicks fans have from the past 20 years or so?
You probably saw Dude Perfect and their trick shots on ESPN. They were pretty impressive, to say the least. Well the next big name in basketball trick shots is waiting to bust loose and hit the big time: All Day Basketball. The group’s youngest members, Jack (the cameraman) and Will Sims are 15, their older brother Paul is 19, and their neighbor Brad Marlow rounds out the group at 20 years old. Read More »
