Before cameras on cell phones and the advent of Flip cams, normally what happened in a gym stayed there. There was no export to YouTube or Facebook option, and if something went down, it was between the people involved and whomever was there to witness it. So when rising senior Steve Blake and incoming freshman John Gilchrist got into it on July 2, 2002 during a pickup game at University of Maryland’s Cole Field House after Gary Williams Basketball Camp, word travelled fast, but that was about it. Nine years later, we have video. Read More »
Do you have any friends or relatives who are just a constant optimist? Everything that happens, whether good or bad, they’ll find the positives. The glass is always half full. When it comes to the NBA lockout, we have our go-to optimists as well. All of us have that one guy who’s always down to cheer us up or say something, anything, to put the bad stuff in the rearview. That dude ain’t LaMarcus Aldridge. He’s one of our favorite players and all, but he vented a little bit to The Oregonian, saying “it’s going to be awhile” until the lockout ends. Read More »
The other day we introduced Under The Armour, a new web series starring the one and only Brandon Jennings. In the third episode, go behind the scenes at Saturday’s Capital Punishment…
A couple weeks ago, we showed you John Wall‘s first official signature shoe, the Reebok Zig Encore. Now, the folks at Reebok have given it the high school treatment. What do I mean? How about a special version in the colorway of Wall’s old high school, Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C. Check it out: Read More »
You want to know how many Reggie Miller threes I watched as a kid? Boom baby! became one of my catch phrases. Not only am I yelling it at least 10 times during every basketball video game I play, but I use it in real-life situations as well (it’s a bad habit). Because of so many huge playoff moments, Miller was one of the faces of the ’90s generation. The question for me though is was it warranted? In 18 years, he only made three All-NBA teams and five All-Star games. At the same time, he dropped over 25K points and is the owner of dozens of memorable clutch shots…
When I had a chance to preview NBA 2K12 this week, I honestly came in ready for a let down. NBA 2K11 was out of this world, plain and simple. Without question the best sports game of the year, and arguably the best video game of the year. But even though the hype for 2012 was there, I wasn’t quite buying into it. Oh, how I was wrong. The only memories I have of Wayman Tisdale are from his final few years in the NBA when he was just a forgettable role player in Phoenix. I didn’t catch him in his prime during the late 1980s and early ‘90s. I also never realized he was a spectacular musician until sometime around his death in 2009. If we are talking about great NBA musicians, then Tisdale has to be near the top. He had a No. 1 Billboard album, as crazy as that sounds. But if we did that – opened this list up to every ballplayer/artist – it would turn into an impossibility. Read More »
In the history of international basketball, there’s never been a country with as much style and swag as Lithuania. So as you’d expect, Nike hooked them up with the latest and greatest – the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 – as they attempt to qualify for next summer’s Olympic Games in London. Maybe it’s the colorway, or maybe it’s the country’s native spelling of “Lietuva” on the tongue, but either way I like it. Check ‘em out: Read More »
This is exciting. I can honestly say I was impressed by your ingenuity, curiosity and grammar. Considering none of those usually fall under the unwritten rules of commenter etiquette, I think it’s a sign of good things to come. Anyway, to the questions. Read More »
