Depending on how long this lockout lasts, Blake Griffin is well on his way to becoming just as well known on the court as he is off of it. Whether it’s taking over MySpace during NBA All-Star Weekend, or stealing the show at the ESPYs, Blake has shown the world that he’s more than just a basketball player. This week, he’s taking his talents to Hollywood but not looking for any handouts. That’s right, 22-year-old is interning at Funny Or Die. Read More »
Now obviously, winning Rookie of the Year last year was pretty much an impossibility for him. But no one ever gives John Wall the credit he deserves for his first season. Yeah, Washington sucked, but it wasn’t his fault. His numbers were legit, and that was even with a number of frustrating injuries. Early in the year, Wall was consistently putting up lines like 21 points, 11 assists, four rebounds, three steals. But then he hurt his left foot, and then bruised his right knee. The season ended quietly, and everyone forgot how good he was (if we hear one more person talk about Landry Fields like he was on Wall’s level, we might march). Read More »

I know this is from a few days ago, but am I surprised Marshon Brooks can hit midcourt shots with ease? Not entirely. But it is a little crazy to see him shoot it with virtually no extra effort. Granted, it looks like the court is small, but he’s still wetting from really deep.
It’s someone’s birthday today. Yep, Kobe Bryant has turned 33 years old. He’s officially in the latter third of his NBA career. I remember watching the 2008 Olympics, with Kobe playing on his 30th birthday, and thinking “Damn, dude is getting old.” Three years later, that number is only going up.
I had planned for a few weeks on doing some mega-piece of words on him. But I’ve written a lot on Kobe himself and his best plays, so at this point there really isn’t much else I can say on the man. Read More »
They say every champion boxer has one great fight left in his bones. They say every writer has one great story to tell. If both of these things are true, and I would wager they are, then one more thing would seem to be true as well: Every basketball player has a game that got away. Read More »
Just because NBA players are locked out, doesn’t mean they can’t still hoop in a league setting. So for the dozens of guys that spend their offseason training in Las Vegas, the folks behind Impact Basketball are doing something about it. According to Alex Kennedy of HOOPSWORLD, Impact will be launching their own league in mid-September with an estimated 70 NBA players. Read More »
There was a time when LeBron James was supposed to revitalize Cleveland and bridge the gap between Michael Jordan and the present. It was an exciting time. Alright fine, I was giddy. We all claim to want parity in the NBA, but it’s nice to hate, revere and adore. Of course I want my Knicks to win, but I want to see records broken, epic upsets and the like. It’s these wildly outlandish emotions and memories that make basketball true and relevant. Sure, the game has no pragmatic value to un-basketball-enlightened folk, aside from providing an excuse to drink beer and rearrange your schedule, but it’s relaxing and stimulating. Satisfying and depressing. It’s a chance lay down the weapons of nine-to-five warfare and be a part of something bigger. Read More »
