Hall Of Famers & Hip-Hop Legends Help Launch NBA 2K12 In Style

NBA 2K12 Demo

The elite of the basketball and hip-hop communities gathered last night to celebrate the launch of one of the most highly anticipated video game releases in years: NBA 2K12. The 2K franchise has crushed all competition and so did its launch party, which took place at “Good Units” in the basement of the Hudson Hotel on West 58th street.

With 13 championships between them, Scottie Pippen and Robert Horry went at it on one of the many video screens set up around the event. The young guns were in attendance as well. Read More »

A Solution To The NBA Lockout

Derrick Rose

How can we solve the lockout? Well, we can’t really do anything. But, we can at least share ideas. Our friends over at The Hoop Doctors have a rather interesting one: have a season with only eight teams. Which eight teams? Only the ones that claim to have made money last season. The rest of the owners and players can stay in lockout mode and work on negotiating a new deal. Would it – or could it – ever happen? No way. Is it interesting to think about? No doubt. Read More »

California’s Other “Mr. Clutch” Plays in the Best 1-on-1 Game of the Summer

Red Bull King of the Rock

No disrespect to Jerry West, but when you haven’t played basketball in front of a crowd in over 35 years, even the most well-deserved nickname can be transferred to a younger generation.

So while those who watched West light up the NBA in the 1960s and ‘70s with the L.A. Lakers might throw up a little at the thought of another California-based guard borrowing any parts of the “Mr. Clutch” moniker, they should understand it’s simply part of the game. Read More »

Al Harrington Gets Beat Up By Gladiators

People always say guys play better in a contract year. Check out this video of Al Harrington competing in a Spartan Race from last weekend on Staten Island, New York. For most of the race, he’s running like Big Z. Send a few gladiators to chase after him and boom, he’s Usain Bolt. What’s a Spartan Race? It’s billed as an ultimate obstacle course designed by insane ultra athletes and a Royal Marine. I’m assuming that’s why Harrington looked completely drained by the end.

NBA Superstars: Undervalued & Underpaid

Dwyane Wade

Could it be that someone who makes nearly $25 million a year to play a game is underpaid? Yes, at least according to some people in the business. In a Yahoo! Sports piece, Jerry Buss admits that Kobe Bryant is probably worth $70 million to his franchise, despite being paid nearly a third of that. If there were bidding wars on the top NBA players, who knows how far owners would push the price up to either attract, or keep, their real moneymakers. Read More »

Why Kevin Durant Is Better Than LeBron James

Kevin Durant

When we posted this debate earlier this month – LeBron James vs. Kevin Durant – it set off an avalanche of opinions… so much so that one writer felt the need to clarify exactly what he thinks…

LeBron James will undoubtedly go down as the most physically talented player of all-time. His regular season numbers might even rival those of the great Michael Jordan by the time The King steps down from his throne. Unfortunately for James however, championship performance and clutch play largely separate the gifted from the elite in the NBA, and Kevin Durant’s playoff progression has him primed to soon eclipse James on the list of the league’s best players. NBA Fantasy Team Analysis: The Los Angeles Clippers

Blake Griffin & DeAndre Jordan

To the casual fan, the Los Angeles Clippers are the dude who dunks a lot and some other guys. To fantasy basketball fans, they’re more – not much more, but more nonetheless. They’re a team limited to two true fantasy stars, but the Clippers might have another gem or two in store for discerning fantasy owners. Read More »

Report: Kobe Bryant Reaches Deal To Play In Italy

Kobe Bryant

Even when it comes to rapping, Kobe Bryant has never been scared to fail. To him, trying and failing is nothing. So when talk of him playing overseas came up earlier this summer, we knew it was very possible. If any NBA star was going to look into it, it had to be Kobe. Turkey sounded nice, but it never worked. Then Italy showed up and now it feels right. It feels right that Bryant apparently reached a verbal agreement to play with the Italian club Virtus Bologna. Read More »

Ben Wallace’s New Offense; Kobe Bryant Closes in on Europe

ben-wallace-03

Ben Wallace had a greater offense this weekend than Tom Brady. On Saturday night, he was reportedly booked on drunken driving charges as well as for the unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon. The police didn’t release his blood alcohol level and Big Ben will be back in court on Oct. 3. The pistol is something we can’t defend, and neither is the driving. But drinking (Wallace says he had four beers) is what happens when you’re part of an organization that seems intent on making itself the most dysfunctional group in all of sports. All of those players seemed like they were wound-up soldiers ready to pop at any second because of the frustration. We can only imagine the amount of stress they were under this year. For his part, Wallace says he was driving from Virginia to Michigan and just forgot that the gun – registered to his wife – was in a backpack in his backseat … Read More »

Happy Birthday Kevin Durant!

As if being on the cover of the newest issue of Bounce wasn’t enough, Kevin Durant is probably out celebrating his 23rd birthday today. Actually who am I kidding? He’s probably in the gym right now…
