“Historic” Spain Wins Another EuroBasket ‘Chip

Serge Ibaka

Spain won their second straight EuroBasket championship yesterday, defeating Tony Parker and France, 98-85. Juan Carlos Navarro, the former Memphis shooting guard, stole the show. Navarro scored 27 points in a victory, describing his Spanish team as “historic.” Pau Gasol went for 17 & 10 while Oklahoma City Thunder center Serge Ibaka added 10 points and five blocks (all during a brief period in the second quarter when Spain jumped on top). This was Ibaka’s first tournament with the Spanish team after being granted citizenship in July. Read More »

Remix: The Mike Vick ATL Experience

Mike Vick

Although our beloved NBA is on the fritz with the lockout, at least the NFLPA and the owners were able to save the NFL. Football season is in full swing and boy does it feel better than ever. The season just started last week and there are already enough storylines to write a book on. The most intriguing of them all, however, is Michael Vick’s return to the Georgia Dome tonight. Locker Room Problems Arise In Oklahoma City

Russell Westbrook

Locker room problems? In Oklahoma City? Naaaah. No way. But yet, there are rumors that the Thunder might be having some issues, specifically between Russell Westbrook and Kendrick Perkins. The New York Daily News reports that while Perkins was brought in for his leadership and experience, he constantly went at Westbrook for not being enough of a playmaker and that he wasn’t close to Rajon Rondo in that regard. While it’s true that Westbrook isn’t the passer Rondo is, you’d think Perkins would have more appreciation for his point guard. Would the Thunder be better off with Rondo? We don’t think so. Sorry Kobe: The Lakers Are Going From The Triangle To The Box

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant might be old, and getting up there in mileage, but don’t you think he’s still the best offensive option the Lakers have? Mike Brown may not agree with you. Of course, no one is going to keep the Mamba from feeding, but Brown sounds contrite when he mentions going inside to Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol. Again. And again. And again. In Cleveland, Brown was criticized for turning the Cavs into “LeBron brings it up, LeBron holds it, LeBron calls for a screen-roll, LeBron holds it, LeBron drives to the rim, LeBron shoots or passes.” That never worked in the playoffs for obvious reasons (it’s never worked for ANYONE). Yesterday, we brought you the most explosive talent in the Class of 2013. We have the most electrifying player from that class on the current cover of Dime. Your Chance To Get A Pair Of Nike MAG Sneakers With The Box Signed By Christopher Lloyd

2011 Nike MAG

Getting your hands on a pair of the exclusive 2011 Nike MAGs is hard enough. The auctions are winding down and every day, there are less opportunities to cop a pair. But if you’re in the New York area, here’s another chance.

A pair of the historic sneakers – with the box signed by none other than Christopher Lloyd – will be auctioned off tomorrow night at 10:04 p.m. at Niketown New York. All of the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help with its mission to cure Parkinson’s disease. Read More »

NBA 2K12 Introduces Championship-Level Defense

NBA 2K12

I’ve been excited for NBA 2K12, just as I am every year. Everyone is here at Dime, and the time we’ve spent with the game has done nothing but fuel the smack talk going on at the office. But 2K released a Developer Insight today that blew my mind. My excitement went from “Okay, I’m going to love this game” to “Holy %^&* get me this game now!”

The reason for this? Defense. Everyone loves themselves a video game where you can drop threes, dunk on someone and run up 130-120 score games. But at some point, it gets frustrating if you really can’t play defense without mashing on the steal button. 2K might’ve done it this year. Read More »

Dime Q&A: Isaiah Thomas Thinks Seattle Could Take Any City

Isaiah Thomas

Isaiah Thomas might be overlooked at times, but he doesn’t want his city being disrespected. To him, Seattle has the best guard talent of anywhere in the country, and if they put together a game (as they’re trying to), he thinks they could probably beat anyone. Besides just standing up for Seattle, Thomas is spending a lot of his summer working out with NBA vets like Jason Terry and getting advice from Damon Stoudamire to hopefully make it in the league with Sacramento. Meet The Potential 2012 No. 1 NBA Draft Pick: Andre Drummond

No, it’s not a sure thing. But look for David Stern to be calling one of two names first overall next summer: Kentucky’s Anthony Davis or this guy right here, UConn’s Andre Drummond. Drummond is too big, too athletic and too skilled to last very long and as long as he’s playing for Jim Calhoun, he’ll have no problems going at 100 percent effort all the time. Some consider him to be the best big man prospect to come along in the last 10-15 years (although we’ve heard that before). The other cat in the video is 6-3 Kris Dunn, who has committed to Providence.

Dime’s Ultimate Movie Baller: Butch McRae vs. Billy Hoyle

Butch McRae

(6) Butch McRae, Blue Chips vs. (15) Billy Hoyle, White Men Can’t Jump

THE RULES

“Dirty looks. That’s all I get,” Billy Hoyle messed with his hat. “Dirty. Dirty. All over.” The crowd was gathered around and were passing him stares that could cut right through his sternum. Hoyle moved his head from side to side, searching for one friendly face. Anyone. All he got back was the same thing: squinting eyes, closed lips and jagged brows. Read More »
