Dime Q&A: Russell Westbrook Talks Video Games & Summer Hoops

Russell Westbrook

The video game culture for the Oklahoma City Thunder has become a genuine part of their appeal. There are all sorts of stories about how the team is always having video game nights or how all they do outside of basketball is go to someone’s house and hit the sticks. That sounds like something we’d do. Actually, we did do that…all through college and high school. So it was fitting that Russell Westbrook, along with Kevin Garnett, were out at the Stages in Playa Vista, Calif. this past Friday, waging war in the first-ever Call of Duty XP event with Call of Duty XP attendees and military personnel. It made for the ultimate Pros vs. GI Joes Call of Duty Grudge Match. Read More »

Renaldo Balkman & Greivis Vasquez Get Into It In Argentina

When Puerto Rico took on Venezuela yesterday in the FIBA Americas Championship, there was a lot of NBA talent on the floor. Jose Juan Barea, Carlos Arroyo, Ricky Sanchez, Daniel Santiago and Renaldo Balkman all suited up for Puerto Rico, while Venezuela had Oscar Torres and Greivis Vasquez. And with Olympic berths on the line, you can understand that things might have gotten heated. And they did. Let’s just say that Balkman didn’t take too kindly to a foul late in the fourth quarter with the game in hand.

This Is What Happens When Steve Nash Guards Justin Bieber

I have no clue where this was played, or who their teammates are, but I’d pay money to see Justin Bieber take on Steve Nash any day. And have Selena Gomez there to cheer ‘em on.

Spain Sits At The Top Of The International Class (Again)

Serge Ibaka

We’ve followed the Spanish men’s play in the EuroBasket tournament and they, along with France and Turkey, are at the top of the heap. Each squad has faced a few rough moments but they’ve been quite formidable when everything’s clicking. Let’s not forget Spain gave the Redeem Team a close fight for 2008 gold until the U.S. pulled away in the fourth. Looking ahead, who are your top five favorites for gold at the 2012 Olympics? … Spain’s the most likely candidate to win EuroBasket as well as a top contender for gold next summer going by their track record. Adding Serge Ibaka to come off the bench doesn’t hurt. Interior presence on both ends is a rare commodity and España’s wealth in those respects has paid major dividends. Read More »

The Heat Won’t Be Held Back

Chris Bosh

We’re not going to say this is progress because it isn’t, and it’s not a step in the right direction because we’re so turned around we don’t know which way is forward -basically we don’t know what the hell to call it so – yea. Chris Bosh told the Sun Sentinel he expects to begin some type of training camp regardless of the NBA lockout, saying that members of the Miami Heat will start working out with each other soon. “We’re going to make some plans. We’re going to plan to do something,” Bosh said in a telephone interview from Los Angeles. “I think just getting around each other, I think it’s important as far as team-building is concerned and just getting something going. We’re pretty much still in the process of doing that.” Hey, as NBA fans, we’ll take what we can get. Read More »

Yao Ming Speaks On Retirement

Yao Ming

There are some things in life more important than basketball. When you’re a kid, if you really love the game, you swear it’s all gonna work out for you and that someday you will make money off this game and someday this game will make you famous. Once you get older, things are put in perspective (usually). Only then, professional athletes become our fantasy world and we view them only as how much entertainment can they provide us? How good can they make our teams? How much joy can they bring to our lives? Sometimes when athletes don’t reach their potential or flame out early or just don’t care as much as we do about the actual sport, we get angry. But at least we can respect Yao Ming for his reasons on leaving the game. Read More »

Gasol Family Fury

Pau & Marc Gasol

He might be saying he has nothing to prove, but someone is definitely playing like he’s a little pissed off he went so Bambi on us last spring. Pau Gasol had his third straight big game yesterday, dropping 21 points in an easy 17-point win for Spain over Britain. His little brother chipped in 18 and 11. If the elder Gasol keeps balling like this well into the season then perhaps Ron Artest is on the money when he says the Lakers will win the title. Actually, if both brothers keep this up, we could be looking at a very interesting Memphis/L.A. playoff series should they meet at some point. Read More »

Rajon Rondo: A Beast In Cornhole

Rajon Rondo

Apparently, Rajon Rondo is really good at cornhole. Like 29-1 good. The Celtic tweeted this photo late last night proclaiming he and former Louisville player Alhaji Mohammed forced James Wilkinson and former Hawk Donta Smith to do 50 pushups because they beat them so bad. The real question though is, how long would it take to play 30 games of cornhole?

Meet The 4 Standouts From The Reebok Breakout Challenge

Reebok Breakout Challenge

Want to watch NBA players in their element? Hardly any cameras, hardly any media, just pick-up ball and drills? I got the chance earlier this week when I was invited up to Reebok Headquarters in Canton, Mass. to spend the day with John Wall, Jason Terry, Jameer Nelson, Ramon Sessions and Isaiah Thomas. These pros were obviously the highlights of the day, and the ones drawing the most attention. But the high school kids, the standouts from Reebok’s Philadelphia Breakout Challenge earlier this summer, brought their games as well. Read More »
