You can thank Kevin Garnett for the lockout. No, he isn’t playing the same role he did in the last one when his newly-minted $126 million contract was seen as the albatross that the owners needed to kill and never allow to come back from the dead. Now he’s in another mode: old veteran looking for one more big pay day. From that angle, it’s cool that he came to NYC and pointed a finger at the owners and at his fellow players. No more concessions, he told his guys over and over. Things got nasty in the meetings – as they’re bound to do with someone like KG – and then progress was halted. In some cases, things went backwards. Read More »
I have no clue exactly why Andrei Kirilenko, Nenad Krstic and that cat who looks to be former NBA player Viktor Khryapa are dancing on stage. But skip to the 1:06 mark if you want to A) get sent into a time machine and B) laugh. Or you can just watch the two ladies in the front…
“We came to put on a show,” said Derrick Williams, and that’s exactly what he did. About a month ago, Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, Calif., hosted a three-day, four-team exhibition tournament to raise money for the school’s athletic department. And since countless NBA players spend their offseason training there, everyone decided to come out. Dubbed the “Short Summer Pro League,” the games featured Williams, Andre Iguodala, Brandon Knight, Jordan Hamilton, Kenneth Faried, Ed Davis, Julian Wright, Darius Morris, and Devin Ebanks. After already showing you Day 1, check out the highlights from Day 2 that were just released…

Between the more widespread use of advanced statistics, and the argument on whether we should take the words of players and coaches as gospel, some NBA players get unfairly hit with labels. We overrated some and underrated others, and often it’s a tag that sticks with them for years. I’ve said this before but in no other sport do we obsess over rankings like we do in basketball. In baseball, it’s so easy to hit a slump or tail off for a short period of time. The best hitters in the world can still go a whole month hitting measly ground balls and pop-ups. In football, it’s impossible to truly compare players. Is Philip Rivers better than Adrian Peterson? Ed Reed or LeSean McCoy? Too many different positions, responsibilities. Read More »

If we are going by simple expectations and projections, then Oklahoma City will be NBA champs within two years, Memphis will win 55-60 games next year, Kevin Durant will one day average 36 points a game, LeBron James and Miami will win at least one ring and the Clippers are set to win 50-plus every year for the next decade because they have Blake Griffin.
Players come and go, some reaching their full potential by 23, others not until they’re 33. But more importantly, teams come and go. Read More »
The Phoenix Suns remain an offensive machine in the NBA, which makes the squad likable for fantasy purposes.
