As Halloween creeps up closer and closer, one can’t help but be depressed about the lack of basketball chatter. Without training camps to gauge which rookies are looking good, or what system a new coach is installing, we are left with nothing but complete silence.
Before we get into which teams will be affected by the lockout, let me preface it by saying this: No team is helped by the present situation. The lockout is holding teams hostage. Read More »
Now that you’ve seen the shoe, you knew that the next thing to drop would be the commercial. In this new 30-second spot titled “Power Your Breakout,” watch John Wall show off his new kicks in style featuring music by Swizz Beatz.
We’ve seen the potential a league of superstars could have. These lockout games showed us: lots of dunks, huge crowds, a public attraction. We’ve reported on overseas tours, starring the very best players in the world. We added an idea from our friends at TheHoopDoctors.com about what it would be like if the NBA only fielded the eight teams currently making money. We’ve heard the conversation that the NBA needs to contract and that the product on the court isn’t where it once was (during the 1980s) because there are too many teams and too few actual star players. We’ve said it all. Now Amar’e Stoudemire is joining the fray. Read More »
Other than the arrival of Jonas Valanciunas, it’s been a tough summer for Toronto Raptors fans. Not only are they dealing with the NBA lockout like the rest of us, but they’re also wondering what the potential loss of a season means for the future of their franchise. At least NBA 2K12 has brought them something to get excited about: it looks like the Raptors will be getting camouflage jerseys. Read More »

Sometimes locked-ins are much more fun than lockouts. From the same people who brought us Lil’ Blake, three NBA players recently discovered this when they took a wrong turn and ended up in a sleepover with a bunch of 11-year-olds and some chaperones. This is where Tyson Chandler can’t get any play, Shawn Marion still sorta looks like Ric Flair and Kevin Love knows way too much about Lisa Frank products. Someone look into this…
We’ve started to hear credible rumblings of a big-time overseas tour for a group of elite NBA superstars, designed to fill the void left by the cancellation of the first two weeks of the season.
The details are a little fuzzy at this point, and none of this has been confirmed (we’ll leave that to the reporters who are sure to chase this story), but here’s what we’re hearing: Read More »
Nothing ever stabs as deep as a career cut short. In particularly with Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway and Tracy McGrady, three similarly-sized players who were meant to redefine the point guard, shooting guard and small forward positions, it feels like someone brought the edge of a sword into out guts and twisted. They were all so young, and with so much potential. But between knees, backs and ankles, all three suffered through injury-riddled primes. Looking at the glass half-full, we still have a few years, and memories of when T-Mac, Penny & Grant were some of the most exciting players the NBA had ever seen. Read More »
If there’s one thing fantasy basketball owners should know, it’s that a team coached by Mike D’Antoni is a team to embrace. While his attention to offense and disregard for defense bring up valid concerns about the New York Knicks‘ real-life success, it’s pretty much gold for fantasy basketball purposes. There are two players driving the bulk of this team’s fantasy appeal, and in this type of offense there’s always the possibility of plug-and-play success for guys who fill in for injured players, especially in the backcourt. Still, as currently constructed, the Knicks do have some potential issues that diminish their fantasy luster, though not by much. Read More »
