Amar’e Stoudemire was all over the place yesterday doing press for various projects, including the release of his new shoe. Thankfully a lean Blake Griffin was there too, and somehow allowed STAT to dunk on him.
LeBron James didn’t take long to try to find new work. Yesterday, James tweeted at ESPN’s John Clayton to ask him when the deadline is for NFL teams to sign free agents. It was obviously done half-jokingly, but hey, there’s never been a better time for the NBA’s best athlete to see if he could become a cross between Antonio Gates and Calvin Johnson. We’ve seen him put the pads on already this summer, and now with a long lockout ahead of us, he’ll probably never get this opportunity again. We can guarantee there’s some attraction on his part; Who wouldn’t want to test themselves and see if they could actually do it? Of course, there’s no way it’ll ever happen. Playing another sport is one thing. Football is a whole other animal. Read More »

Okay, so far this “offseason,” we’ve seen NBA players participate in more celebrity games than Justin Bieber, dwell in their inner Yung Joc, scream and point fingers at NBA commissioners and sell chicken wings. We’ve also heard some form of this thinking from every NBA player in the world: “The overseas option is definitely something I’m looking into. I would be stupid not to.” Good thing none of these guys are stupid.
All of that is fine. But why aren’t we talking about more guys going back to school? Read More »
After an amazing run to the Final Four last season, VCU is trying to make it back. So with the preseason wrapping up, here’s a glimpse into some of the their workouts. Daniel Roose, the Rams’ strength and conditioning coach, is the mastermind behind the program that blends functional strength training with on-court conditioning. Oh yeah, and a little boxing and Navy SEAL training is thrown in there for good measure. Shaka Smart is that dude…
I’m not a Warriors fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the 2007 team – the “We Believe” Warriors – who produced the greatest upset in NBA Playoff history were the most exciting team of the past few years. It’s not even close. Baron Davis at his peak. Stephen Jackson in his prime. Jason Richardson still dunking like a Slam Dunk champ. Monta Ellis coming into his own. That whole team dripped talent and reeked of explosiveness. They were a video game, shooting deep threes, going one-on-one, pushing the rock at every moment. And they actually won. Read More »

Sometimes the best comedy isn’t meant to be funny. Take NBA rankings. Google is a friend, and often when searching for lists, you’ll come across one where Tim Duncan is still a top five player or that Michael Beasley is a future beast. It’ll be written somewhere and you’ll believe it. The date is background. When you do finally see it, scribbled something like October of 2009, you’ll be all: “Ah, okay, I get it now.”
Fans, particularly NBA ones, are extremely erratic. We have to have a top five. We have to proclaim someone as the very best in the league. There can’t just be a group. There must be a list.Read More »
This team is all about a stud point guard and a bunch of spare parts. If its big free agent doesn’t re-sign with the team, the New Orleans Hornets could be one of the more unappealing NBA teams for fantasy owners. With nearly half of its roster on the market, the Hornets will be a team to monitor whenever the league resumes. Read More »
