The NBA’s Top 10 Players Over 30 Years Old

Kevin Garnett

I realize the inevitable: soon, more like very soon, the NBA will pass off to the next generation. These summer league games proved that. The Class of ’96 is on the way out. The teams of the 2000s are sliding off the edge (Spurs, Lakers). It won’t be long before Allen Iverson has some company in the permanent offseason. Ironically, it is these summer league games – runs that don’t even count and that rarely feature a player north of 30 – that have shown me that. Read More »

Martell Webster, Will Bynum & Corey “Homicide” Williams Doin’ Work In Harlem

Reviving a brand that rocked the basketball community in the mid-’90s is no easy task. But if anyone can do it, it’s Martell Webster, Will Bynum, and New York playground legend Corey “Homicide” Williams. With their passion, personalities and hard work, they’re bringing Above The Rim back to forefront of the game. Read More »

NBA Fantasy Team Analysis: The New Jersey Nets

Deron Williams

The New Jersey Nets really don’t offer that much from a fantasy perspective. While they have two prominent fantasy assets, the problem is that one is a point guard whose wrist may require a dose of caution, and the other is a big man who seems to have something of an allergy to rebounds. The team’s activities during the next window of free agency will ultimately determine its appeal – and the possibility for Kardashian jokes. Read More »

“The South Florida All-Star Classic” Behind-The-Scenes Photos

Carmelo Anthony

Two straight killer games? We couldn’t have asked for much more this weekend. There was the “Big Payback” last night out in L.A., but on Saturday night, nine NBA All-Stars took the floor at FIU and showed out. Completely. From Carmelo‘s game-saving three pointer to Rudy Gay, Amar’e Stoudemire and the rest of the guys looking 100 percent to even LeBron‘s game-high 34 points, his one-on-one duels with Dwyane Wade down the stretch and his postgame thank you to the fans, it had it all. Check out some photos (all credited to Rahim Thompson) from the event.

James Harden & The Drew League Get Their Big Payback

James Harden

Even EPMD and James Brown never went this hard. The Drew League was in it to win it, to get revenge for “Capital Punishment,” and mainly because of James Harden, they got what they came for: “The Big Payback.” The L.A. squad pulled away from the Goodman League in the final moments, winning 151-144 even as John Wall (55 points) and Kevin Durant (50 points) dropped a couple of bombs on them. Harden, who hit for 48 and was completely unstoppable at times in the first half, led a somewhat-balanced attack, even with his beard being nearly overshadowed by whatever that crap is on Nick Young‘s head. Whereas most celebrity games like this inevitably fall into a routine of you take it, I take it, this one was dominated by three players. Read More »

A South Florida Classic Shows What We’ve Been Missing

Carmelo Anthony

Have you ever been a part of something so good that once it’s over, it sucks? Like a summer vacation. Once it’s done, you want to just end it. Hate life. Hate that school is starting again. Or a night out with a dime? After that, everything else pales in comparison. You’re never satisfied. That’s what happened yesterday in Florida. Carmelo Anthony banged a trey with two seconds left in regulation to force overtime and from there, Team Wade finished off Team LeBron in the extra session, winning 141-140 even as James (game-high 34 points) hit a half-court shot at the game’s buzzer. The game showed us all what we’ve been missing. The lockout made us forget…the “South Florida All-Star Classic” reminded us. Read More »

NBA Lockout Talks Put On Hold; Kobe Bryant Disses Kwame Brown

Kobe Bryant

Remember how David Stern said that if a deal wasn’t reached by Monday that the first two weeks of the regular season would be cancelled? Well, we’re pretty much there. CBSSports.com reported yesterday that the players reached out about a meeting Monday, but the NBA refused because the players would not prematurely agree on a 50/50 split of the basketball related income. A union source told Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski: “This just confirms what we suspected all along: The NBA was never serious about negotiating until guys missed checks.” So now we’re at a stalemate: Both sides know what they want, and yet neither one will cross that line in the sand. The Real NBA All-Star Game

LeBron James

The players nailed it. These charity games are about the fan. The prices, venues and quality of play makes these pickup games as close to NBA action as you can see over the lockout. After attending The Battle of I-95 a few weekends ago, I’m now addicted. Here are some reasons why you should make it an obligation to attend one yourself. Read More »
