When we first told you about this project, we couldn’t have been more excited. “The Miracle Of St. Anthony” is one of the very best basketball books out there, and this will serve as somewhat of a video tribute to that. This HBO documentary will chronicle St. Patrick’s (Elizabeth, N.J.) 2010-11 season, and prominently features Head Coach Kevin Boyle and his two star players: Kentucky freshman Michael Gilchrist and Western Kentucky freshman Derrick Gordon. The climax of the movie, previewed here, centers around a winner-take-all national championship against St. Anthony’s of Jersey City.
It was hard to fathom the amount of hype a high school kid named LeBron James had. We had never seen it before, and may not ever see it again. Could he live it up to it? Even the kid’s biggest supporters probably couldn’t have scripted a better first game. It’s the same thing with Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers first-year quarterback who seems poised to break all types of rookie records. Has their been a more surprising player through the first four weeks of the NFL season? Read More »
The Memphis Grizzlies proved to be a pretty solid source of fantasy value last season, even after one of their stars went down with a shoulder injury. With just one significant free agent (a restricted one at that), this squad should be mostly intact for another run at NBA (and fantasy) relevancy whenever the season starts. Read More »
While it seemed all eyes were on Chris Paul‘s charity event this weekend because of it’s enormous star power, there were other games going on as well. Case in point: the Southern Hospitality Showcase 2011 went down on Friday at Morehouse College and players like Lou Williams, Rajon Rondo, Iman Shumpert and Nate Robinson put in work. Rondo was so hyped to be teaming up with Kendrick Perkins again that he was even banging jumpers.
Last Friday, Jordan Brandtweeted this: “Next week’s going to be crazy for Jordan heads. We’ve got some big things in the works…” Shortly after, they unveiled a countdown clock on Jumpman23.com, featuring a faint silhouette of three unidentified shoe models. If you do the math, the countdown is set to end today at 2 p.m. EST. What is going on? Read More »
We’d normally be abuzz with preseason and training camp talk around this time but you already know how it goes by now. As Blake Griffin tweeted: First day of training camp finally here can’t wait for… Oh what’s that NBA owners? You won’t let us play? Sorry everybody… On the morning of the start of training camps last year, what was everyone doing? Checking for photos of new J.R. Smith tattoos or seeing how long it might take Boris Diaw to get in shape or even to get some funky quote from Ron Artest or Stephen Jackson. Now this year? The gyms around the league look pretty vacant. Read More »
Many of the NBA’s best veterans were in New York City for at least part of the weekend, meeting with the owners to try to resolve this lockout. While all that was going on, Stephen Jackson was releasing his new single called “The Season,” dissing the lockout. I’m not sure how David Stern will feel about this. What’s A Lockout is Jack’s upcoming mixtape, and this video for his first single is definitely NSFW.
Other than the arrival of Jimmer Fredette, it’s been a tough summer for Sacramento Kings fans. Not only are they dealing with the NBA lockout like the rest of us, but they’re also wondering what the potential loss of a season means for the fate of their franchise. At least NBA 2K12 has brought them something to get excited about: the Kings will be getting black alternate jerseys. Read More »
Kevin Love is a smart dude. If you don’t believe me, just look at what he’s been up to this summer. From comedy to school to volleyball, you’d almost think he wasn’t an NBA player anymore. The scary thing is he’s just getting started. So if you have been wondering what he’ll been wearing on his feet this season, look no further. After his deal with PEAK came to an end this summer, K-Love switched over to another Chinese based brand, 361 Degrees, and was given a new signature model. Read More »
Despite what you may think, most NBA players don’t set sail for the Caribbean once the season ends; many decide to work on their game. This is definitely the case for Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. With that, watch these two workout in Miami this summer.
