This week, the hottest show on the road made its stop in NYC. After hitting New Jersey’s IZOD center this weekend, Jay-Z and Kanye West each made their return to the Garden Monday night for the Watch The Throne tour. Luckily for me, I was able to be in attendance thanks to one of my good friends Darren Gee (shout out to him for looking out). By the time we got there (around 8:30), the house was already packed. There were no opening acts or hosts for the show. The Garden was packed with fans patiently awaiting the arrival of the two biggest superstars rap has to offer. Read More »
This Friday’s Carrier Classic is more than just two basketball teams coming together to play on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson. *College basketball is here (unlike the NBA), and this year might be one of the best in recent memory. The powerhouse is back, while the Cinderellas believe. That’s a deadly combination. I don’t know about you, but I grew up watching Sesame Street. And although I’ve never asked them, I’m sure that’s the same for Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudamire. With that, watch as ‘Melo and STAT explain the word “compare” to their homie Grover as part of the show’s ridiculous 42nd season.
So no ultimatum? That’s what happened. The thing with this lockout is that it’s entirely too difficult to predict just what’s going to happen. Everyone’s throwing threats, ultimatums and “take it or leave it” offers when the truth is that both sides aren’t going to abide by this stuff. Yesterday, there was a 5 p.m. deadline… and the talks ended up going on long into the night. The lockout may not have ended, but significant progress was made. A 50/50 split appears to be the likely scenario, and now the two sides are working on system issues. The players have given up a lot and now they want to win this part. Read More »
No one’s walked up to me and asked me that – yet – but it could happen. It’s a rhetorical question, a prodding that’s on everyone’s mind simply because everywhere you look, it’s there. On the walls. On the scoreboard. On the DJ booth. On the bus. From here is St. Frances Academy, but not entirely. That’s just the setting. From here is rugged Baltimore, the streets, where ball is played until the rain gets so heavy you gain weight, where cement cracks go from being ant hill homes to stoned-feet defenders. Read More »

With no NBA season on the horizon, college basketball is going to be the best show around this fall. And for anyone that’s ever been to a game at Illinois’ Assembly Hall, you know the atmosphere is like none other. I mean, what’s not to love about a student section called the “Orange Krush.” Anyways, their new basketball court has arrived for the 2011-12 season, and we thought y’all might like to see it. Check out some photos, and hear from head coach Bruce Weber – along with the creative director and technical coordinator – about the process of coming up with the new design. Read More »
