While it seemed all eyes were on the charity games hosted by Matt Barnes (San Jose) and LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland) this weekend, there was another game going on as well. Case in point: Damien Wilkins‘ Monster Slam went down on Saturday at Clark Atlanta University, and players like Shannon Brown, Jeff Green, Lou Williams, Derrick Favors, Jordan Crawford, and Jarrett Jack put in work.
Were we the only ones to criticize Michael Jordan in light of the recent reports that the Bobcats’ owner might be trying to draw too hard of a line against the players? Not even close. Players now seem to be taking their frustrations to Twitter in regards to this whole MJ/BRI thing. Washington Wizards guard Nick Youngtweeted this weekend that he is never going to wear Jordan sneakers again, referencing what he saw and heard in relation to Jordan’s actions at the lastest negotiation meeting. But Young wasn’t the only one to voice anger over Jordan actions. Golden State Warriors rookie Klay Thompson tweeted: U think 1996 MJ would pull this? Straight hypocrite bro… Indiana Pacers guard Paul George then chimed in, responding to Thompson’s tweet: Man straight hypocrite bro…He should have been the first one behind us smh. Read More »
The whole situation is just messed up. Depending on who you listen to, the players are slowly losing their strength. There were the questions about Derek Fisher‘s loyalty, and now reports that many big-name players participated in the decertification calls this week. On the other side, the owners’ offers keep getting worse and worse. You give them a little bit, sacrifice a little money, and then they want more. According to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com, even if the players were to agree to a 50/50 split, there’s no guarantee that the owners would take it anymore. The owners also have questions about certain system issues that were already previously agreed upon. Not good signs … Read More »
We are so tired of writing words like “lockout” and “canceled” and “meetings” and “George Cohen” and “decertification” that we can’t imagine how y’all feel reading it. It all makes us want to run up in the meetings shouting and screaming, slapping people across the face. The bad news never seems to stop. No matter if he’s playing or in a suit, Michael Jordan is always in between the lines. Amazingly, even nearly a decade after he officially retired for the final time, MJ’s influence can still be felt across the league, from the owners to the players and onto the fans. People still love him. His sneakers still sell. And the players still respect him. Tomorrow will represent some of the most important meetings yet, and the two sides are basically fighting to save the season at this point. Read More »
If you’re looking for a new song to ride to this weekend, look no further than “Blue Sky,” Common‘s second single off his upcoming album, The Dreamer/The Believer. It’s basically been on repeat ever since it dropped. In addition to listening for the hoop references, check out some behind the scenes footage from the shoot after the jump.
Thank God Saturday is just one day away. It’s not that I won’t enjoy watching LSU and Alabama throw haymakers at each other for 60 minutes in an atmosphere that will probably be teetering on the edge of dangerous. But I’m just tired of hearing about it. This has been going on for two weeks, and last night I saw a program on ESPN analyzing what color rugs and chairs the opposing coaches had set up in their offices. What part of the game is that? “Saban has some hard crimson coloring all over his office. He’s really into the game. His intensity is sky high!” I nearly broke my television. Read More »
With Carmelo Anthony and Spike Lee holding court in NYC, Jordan Brand is in a New York State of Mind. The Jordan Melo M8 launch took the city by storm in October, and they’re releasing Knicks-inspired colorways of the Jordan Spiz’ike tomorrow to continue the celebration. But to show love to the city that gave birth to His Airness, Jordan Brand is giving you a chance to win a signed commemorative box set of Melo M8s and Spiz’ikes today and tomorrow. Read More »
Back in the day, I was a pretty big Antoine Walker fan. I mean, what Celtics fan wasn’t? But then I met Matt Clarke. Well, we didn’t actually meet, but you get the picture. After ‘Toine signed up for Twitter last week, Clarke – who hails from Adelaide, Australia – sent him a picture of his memorabilia collection. Check it out: Read More »
Mikki Moore wasn’t a memorable NBA player. But he had one of the coolest hobbies you’ll ever see: collecting snakes and other reptiles. He’s owned albino Burmese pythons, Colombian red tail boa constrictors and even corn snakes (but he won’t do venomous). Being that I grew up much the same way Moore did – catching snakes, keeping them as pets – I can identify with the obsession. Hit the jump for part two of the video.
Dwight Howard hears your concerns, especially you Magic fans out there. He appreciates the Stay Dwight campaign, and doesn’t seem like he really wants to leave. It’s as if he’s slowly being pulled away towards the big city – L.A. or New York. He wants to show he cares. So come Nov. 13, he’ll be throwing his own charity game, which has so many former or current Magic players, we might as well just call it a preseason scrimmage. Everyone from DeShawn Stevenson to Ryan Anderson will be in the house, but the one guy I want to see – no, must see – is Steve Francis. Stevie Franchise… or whatever’s left of him. Read More »
