The First NBA Transaction Rumors Begin; UNLV Upsets Top-Ranked UNC

Carmelo Anthony

Our Saturday started off as perfectly as possible with news greeting us as our alarm clocks rang that a tentative labor agreement had been reached, and that the lockout was finally, if unofficially, over. For now, we can’t completely invest ourselves in a new season – scheduled to be 66 games, starting on Christmas day – but pretty much everyone agrees on one thing: this deal will get approved and will get done. Book it. So who won and who lost? With the cancellation of games, everyone loses: the fans, the owners and the players. But as far as the approved deal, many of the leading names on both sides came out of this looking as good as they could’ve under the current circumstances. Read More »

Tentative Labor Deal Reached: We Are Getting NBA Basketball For Christmas

NBA Lockout

After all the frustration and anger, lonely nights stuck watching whatever college game we can find, we are getting NBA basketball on Christmas day. David Stern got his wish. Maybe this wasn’t our ultimate wish (it would’ve been better to have it done earlier), but this announcement just gave the holiday a little extra juice. Unless the scheduling is changed, the 2011-12 season will open with the Boston Celtics traveling to play the New York Knicks, followed by a Finals rematch, Miami at Dallas. The nightcap would be MVP Derrick Rose and Chicago against Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. How hyped are you? Read More »

UCF Shocks UConn; A Deal To End The Lockout Could Be Near

Kemba Walker

UCF didn’t want to talk Big East. They were also apparently sick of hearing about UConn’s 16-game winning streak as well. Whether they make the jump to the Big East soon or not, the Knights let their play do the talking: we deserve to be there. Down 17 with 16 minutes to go against the defending champs, a team that hadn’t lost a game in seemingly forever, and sporting probably the best backcourt in the country… none of it fazed UCF. Behind Marcus Jordan (yes, the son of MJ) and Keith Clanton (both dropped 20, Jordan added seven rebounds and assists), they stormed back and beat the No. 4-ranked Huskies 68-63. Read More »

UConn Continues To Roll; Lamar Odom Going Overseas

Shabazz Napier

UConn wasn’t about to let some team from UNC-Asheville steal their shine on Thanksgiving. The Huskies have now won 16 games in a row, and they can thank everyone they have a backcourt like Jeremy Lamb and Shabazz Napier. Those two dominated once again as they both scored 23 points and Napier added seven assists. We’ve had many people – actually most of them have been UConn fans but still – tell us that UConn is just as good as UNC and Kentucky. Those two are considered the two biggest powers in the country by far, and in the public eye have all but wrapped up spots in the championship. Can UConn steal their glory? … Read More »

10 NBA Players Who Have the Most to be Thankful for This Thanksgiving

Derrick Rose

Today is a day where we are supposed to reflect and give thanks for the many gifts in our lives. No matter how bad things may seem, there is always something to be thankful for. The basketball world, despite the rotten situation created by the NBA Lockout, is no different.

NBA players are without a paycheck (we know, we know), their side of the Lockout fight is disorganized, they are disjointed in their beliefs, and they are inevitably going to get severely worked over by the owners when this thing is finally ironed out. But for some NBA players, the Lockout has been a blessing in disguise.

Here are the 10 NBA Players who Have the Most to Be Thankful for This Thanksgiving: Read More »

Duke Wins Another Maui Title; NBA Basketball Back For Christmas?

Mason Plumlee

We sort of called this. Duke lives and dies by the three. They did again last night. Tyler Thornton, the last guy you might expect to take a big shot – maybe the last guy you’d even expect to be in the game – hit not one but two huge threes in the final moments against Kansas. The second one was an end-of-the-shot-clock heave from nearly out of bounds that you just knew was going in the moment he released it. Combine those shots with a three from Andre Dawkins, and Kansas – who played them even all the way – couldn’t finish it off and lost 68-61. Read More »

Video: Highlights From Donte Greene's Goon Squad Classic

While it seemed all eyes were on the charity games hosted by Drew Gooden and Rajon Rondo this weekend, there was another game going on as well. Case in point: Donte Greene‘s Goon Squad Classic went down on Sunday night at the UC Davis Pavilion, and players like Tyreke Evans, DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmer Fredette, Jason Thompson, Isaiah Thomas, Matt Barnes, Hassan Whiteside, and Spencer Hawes put in work. My Top 10 Sneakers Of All Time

Nike Air Max LeBron VII

I know that after reading the title for this post you’re probably thinking to yourself, who’s to decide what are the 10 best sneakers of all-time? Sneakers are sort of like ice cream: There’s no way you cannot love them, but they come in so many different styles and flavors that it’s almost impossible to pick a definitive top 10 best of all time. From the early 90’s the sneaker culture began to evolve very quickly. New models, designs and technology took the market by storm & it repeatedly raised the bar year after year. Although the more modern shoes are incorporated with better technology (Air Max, Flywire, Hyperfuse, Zig Tech, AdiZERO) there are some sneaks that just have too much of a classic value to be ignored on this list. Forgive Or Forget: Will You Still Care About The NBA?

Derrick Rose

When baseball players went on strike back in 1994, suffice it to say I didn’t take it very well. I had just turned 15, baseball was my first sports love, and I couldn’t process that the two sides couldn’t come together to make absolutely sure there was a World Series that year. Heartbroken, I steadfastly vowed I would never go to another game.

In what shouldn’t be a surprise, I didn’t stick to that. I begrudgingly resumed attending Mets games four years later, and McGwire and Sosa’s laser show during the Summer of ’98 again got me watching baseball highlights every night. Read More »
