Dime’s 2011-12 NBA Preview: The Southeast Division

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade & Chris Bosh

Everyone wants to talk about super teams. Of course, the Heat, Knicks, Clippers, Celtics and all the rest of ‘em capture the imagination of the NBA fan base. There’s nothing quite like feeling the anticipation and excitement in the air when you see that news hit telling you Chris Paul has finally been traded and he’s going to the Clippers. What immediately follows is typically more invigorating than what eventually happens. The promise of what could be is almost always better than what is. Even here at Dime, we find ourselves talking about one third of the NBA about 80 percent of the time. That doesn’t mean we don’t care about everyone else. Read More »

Joakim Noah Stuffs Tyler Hansbrough Dunk At The Rim

Joakim Noah Stuffs Tyler Hansbrough Dunk At The Rim

With five points and eight rebounds, on paper, Joakim Noah didn’t have the greatest game against Indiana last night. But the overall way that the Bulls manhandled the Pacers (one of the most buzzed-about young teams in the League), he didn’t need to put up big numbers.

The following highlight sums up how the Bulls treated the Pacers last night in Chicago – Tyler Hansbrough thinks he has a clear path to a dunk, but even in preseason, there’s no way Noah is going to let Psycho T get his: Read More »

JaVale McGee Dunks on Sixers, Stares Down Helpless Rookie

It may only be preseason, but JaVale McGee and his game and antics are in mid-season form. The Sixers handled the Wizards in Philly last night, but JaVale was a real bright spot for the Wiz.

McGee looked great last night, going for 20 points, nine boards, three steals, two blocks and one vicious dunk on Sixers’ rookie Nikola Vucevic. Check out the dunk below, as well as JaVale’s extended stare-down of the rookie, who can do nothing but keep his head down and walk away: Read More »

Chicago Locks Down Derrick Rose; Ray Allen Calls Out David West

Derrick Rose

Well Derrick Rose had a nice day. He got paid and became a made man in Chicago if he wasn’t already one. Then in the capper, he methodically picked apart everyone’s Eastern Conference sleeper, Indiana, in Chicago’s 93-85 win. We felt like it was April and we were back in the first round of the playoffs again. Rose (12 points, nine assists) was destroying Darren Collison (1-for-7, six points), Psycho T was doing his bowling ball routine (24 points, 13 rebounds) and the Bulls’ defense was more suffocating than an only child’s mother, holding Indiana to 36 percent from the field. Report: Derrick Rose Gets Paid

Derrick Rose

Much like Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose is an NBA superstar almost completely devoid of drama. He just wants to play ball and win – he trusts that the rest of the stuff will fall in line. How much is that worth to a team when they’re looking to keep their A-List superstar for the long haul? The answer in Chicago is almost $100 million.

ESPN is reporting that things have fallen in line in a very big way for D-Rose, as he has apparently agreed to a massive contract extension with the Bulls. Read More »

The Game Plan For The Phoenix Suns: Go Big Or Go Home

Hakim Warrick

Three years after Mike D’Antoni left Phoenix for New York, his run-and-gun style still influences Phoenix’s style under Alvin Gentry. And with two-time MVP Steve Nash still running the point, it’s easy to think of the Suns as a guard’s playground.

But as the Suns open their preseason tonight against Denver ahead of Monday’s season opener at home against New Orleans, the intrigue around Phoenix centers around its emerging frontcourt depth. Read More »
