Doesn’t it feel like David West sort of belongs on the Celtics? He has a little dog in him, and maybe it’s just us, but he seems like a great fit up there. Luckily for Boston fans, Danny Ainge agrees with us, and as of now, the Celtics are on the verge of adding the former All-Star Hornet through a sign-n-trade. Adrian Wojnarowski reports that while it isn’t done quite yet (New Orleans is in limbo right now because they’re focusing on CP), it will be for three years and somewhere between $27-29 million and will probably have Boston send Jermaine O’Neal and one other player to the Hornets. Still, there are question marks. He’s 31 and coming off a major ACL injury. He also technically plays the same spot as Kevin Garnett, although those two could easily play next to each other. If you didn’t catch the end of the Xavier/Cincinnati Crosstown Shootout this afternoon, you missed a brawl for the ages. After a week of trash-talking in the media leading up to the rivalry game, things went off the rails with about 10 seconds to go when Xavier star Tu Holloway was jawing with the Cincy bench. What happened next? 300-level brawling: Read More »

So it’s looking like Chris Paul may end up in Los Angeles after all. Less than 48 hours after an initial trade involving New Orleans, Houston and the Lakers was vetoed by the league for “basketball reasons,” the teams reconvened once given permission and have now submitted another proposal to the league for approval. As of this point, as ESPN.com reports, the players involved and the changes made to the last deal aren’t completely available. Read More »

Of all five teams that the New Orleans fiasco sort of screwed over this week (Los Angeles, New Orleans, Houston, the Knicks and Boston), it’s the Lakers who are probably hurting the most to get these talks kick-started and moving again. Lamar Odom isn’t feeling the love right now, and showed up for just a few moments during practice yesterday. So there’s no doubt in our minds that they’re working feverishly right now. The teams were given the green light to start talking again so all three are back to the negotiating table, attempting to tweak what they thought was a sure thing just a few days ago. Read More »

Apparently we weren’t the only ones to take notice of Dan Gilbert’s letter to David Stern. In response, the Washington Generals have offered Gilbert a chance to play or coach when they come to Cleveland on Dec. 27 to face the Harlem Globetrotters. According to the team, this is a serious offer. They’ve even made him a jersey. Read More »

There are certain moves that, yes, have to be made for “basketball reasons.” Blocking a Chris Paul trade to L.A. is not one of them; but re-signing Thaddeus Young in Philly is. According to Kate Fagan of the Philadelphia Inquirer, that’s exactly what happened today, as Young agreed to a five-year, $43 million deal to return to Philly. Read More »

Growing up, before I made it to high school, when I first started playing ball, the small forward spot was my comfort zone. I grew early, was nearly six foot by the seventh grade, but I never wanted to go hard in the paint Waka Flocka-style. For any big man growing up, that three spot was Disney Land. Oh so close, and yet sometimes so far off. It was attainable if you took just enough head-scratching jumpers, and showcased just enough of a propensity to shrink underneath the boards. Then maybe… just maybe they’d move you outside and you’d be free to divulge your inner Sam Perkins. Read More »

Now things are getting real. In an official statement from the Orlando Magic – on their website – President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Otis Smith announced that they have waived Gilbert Arenas and designated him as the team’s “amnesty player,” paying him the $62.4 million left on his contract through 2013-14. Welcome to free agency, Gil. Read More »

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, the NBA pulls one of the most unbelievable, inexplicable, outrageous moves any of us have ever seen.
Short of getting Rajon Rondo and a first-round pick or two, this Chris Paul trade is as good as it gets for a player walking out the door anyway. And if the NBA’s concern is “super teams,” they should have effectively addressed that in collective bargaining. Blocking a legitimate basketball trade because a few sore losers didn’t like it is inexcusable and bad for business. Read More »
