Derrick Rose Is Unstoppable; Blake Griffin Is Unbelievable

Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose (photo. adidas)

Derrick Rose said he was gonna go crazy against Washington last night, and dude did go a little nuts. Not only did he pick up a technical, but he was as aggressive as we’ve seen him all year in the first half, weaving into the lane and throwing up more of those high-arching floaters he’s grown fond of. John Wall gave him some run during the first half of Chicago’s 10-point win, but there’s still one glaring difference between the two: John Wall makes tough shots. Derrick Rose makes tough shots look easy. Early in the first, Rose (35 points, eight assists) split a double and then went up and under at the rim, scoring over three guys. To follow that, Wall (20 points) got on the break and somehow threw in a leaning floater that hit the top of the glass (a shot Wall hits probably 10 percent of the time) … At some point in the third quarter last night, we realized we’ve watched an inordinate amount of Wizards game this year. They’re like watching one of those movies that’s so bad it actually becomes funny … Orlando lost again, and scored 69 points in the process. The Sixers weren’t exactly smoking offensively (Ryan Anderson had 20 rebounds. Did anyone make a shot?). But the Magic were dreadful. Hedo Turkoglu was playing brain dead, shooting fallaway threes out of the offense. Van Gundy was even putting Larry Hughes into it. Dwight Howard (17 points, 11 rebounds) can’t be left off the hook either; He was 6-for-17. Forget contracting anyone else. Contract this team as a punishment for being an embarrassment … Big Baby went flying into the stands chasing a loose ball at one point down 16. Malik Rose goes, “That is one time you don’t want to catch the baby.” We love this guy … As bad as Orlando has been, Rudy Gay might’ve taken the cake for worst performance of the night. He scored one point, and didn’t make a single shot in 34 minutes. The Spurs destroyed the Grizz, and the score – 83-73 – doesn’t do it justice. How ugly was it for Memphis? In the third quarter, Tony Allen actually had to restrain Lionel Hollins from strangling the life out of the officials. Think about that. That’s just like Sonny telling Michael to “Sit this one out bro” … “Where’s T-Mac?” Down 10 with under two minutes to go, in a game they would go on to lose 120-108, that was all the Houston color guys could say. That’s what happens when you give up 58 percent shooting for the game and 42 points in one quarter. The Wolves in the third quarter smelled blood, and with Ricky Rubio (18 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds) making pinpoint passes on every play – including a ridiculous lob to Martell Webster – they ran away with it. Rubio is changing that culture. Their third quarter was probably the best 12 minutes of passing we’ve seen all year. Even Michael Beasley (34 points) is back, staying under control and thriving … The statistical site, Hoopdata, has begun tracking charges drawn, and through 20 games, Rubio leads the NBA with 18. You’re not gonna believe the two guys who round out the top three: DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall … Keep reading to hear about how hot the Clippers got …

    Sixers v Nuggs.

Sixers should go farther cause the east is weaker.

Control summed up the Westbrook/Rose comparison perfectly. The Bulls need Rose to score, the Thunder need Westbrook to facilitate more.

    @Philly vs Denver

I think they are equals. Neither team has an Alpha Male, but they are loaded with talent. That only gets you so far in the NBA. You need to have someone who is going to lead and be the go to guy in the clutch.

Orlando looks bad, but I find it funny people are saying Dwight has quit on his team. That’s complete Bullshyt. I don’t even like Dwight but I won’t judge him off that. Just because he wants to be traded doesn’t mean he’s packing it in. Same thing with Melo last year. You all have to stop believing the damn media story lines. They don’t write to report the news. Almost a majority of the shyt i’ve read in articles is all speculation and hearsay from that writer. Or my favorite is when they take the words of an athlete out of context and twist them, then write an entire story based on that.

it usually isn’t funny if you’re the butt of jokes.

notice that i again used the word ‘butt’ there, bn?

@chaos, I was going to say the same thing. another thing that reflect the difference in the two is that there is a direct correlation between Russ being a turnover machine and his team being 24th in the league in assist while Roses turnovers are down from last season and his team being less turnover prone and having a higher assist/turnover ratio.

  • K Dizzle

@ Chi-rilla – please tell me you jokin about Dwight not quitting on his team. If Dwight ain’t quit on them, then they quit on him. I read a good article on yahoo that was sayin basically that after Dwight called out his teammates, they pretty much quit on him n how he can’t even say shit cuz he really ain’t the team leader anymore.
You can’t tell ur teammates that they just ain’t good enough by askin to be dealt, then shit on them same dudes for not steppin up. You knew they weren’t shit when you asked to be traded then you actually have the balls to tell em to step up?
Behind his back, teammates are startin to whisper “Fuck Dwight”
The only reason he still in Orlando is cuz the All Star game is there n management don’t want him comin back in another team’s uni. If Otis had any balls, he’d trade him today so the fans could boo him the whole weekend.
Losin respect for that dude daily. Now he doin the “If it’s God’s will, I’ll play with (insert player here).
Orlando management comin off as soft n that team’s chemistry is fully poisoned now. 22ppg, 12rpg, 43%ft, 4 ASSISTS n 14 TURNOVERS in 4 straight losses, 2 straight 20 pt blowouts vs Tony Battie, 21 mins of Hibbert on one leg, Okafor n KG? Plus a 30 pt loss to the Celts before they finally beat Indy before the losing streak.
You can want dude all you want in Chi-town, but dude has quit on Orlando. This ain’t the media tellin us. We watchin games…

  • UncheckedAggression

Yeah, I can’t feel that badly for Howard. He created this. Funny, because he was well aware of what Lebron did and I’m assuming he didn’t want to create a similar situation. At least the Cavs were able to make a serious run in the playoffs, and if Mo Williams could shoot 40% then they may have won the championship. This Magic team is suffering one of the biggest collapses I’ve ever seen. Pretty early in the season, too.

    Maybe they’ll turn it around.

    @KDizzle

When a player is quitting on his team, you’ll see it in his game play. You’ll see it in his production. Everything you just stated sounds like Dwights TEAMMATES quit on him. Not the other way around. And are we all forgetting that Dwights teammates SUCK?
If Dwight were to sit out for 10 games and Orlando played 5 good teams and 5 bad teams, they would be 2-8 in that span without Dwight. That entire team is predicated on Dwight drawing double teams so they can shoot three’s.

The real issue that everyone should be addressing is SVG and his terrible coaching that has caused Dwight to want to leave. If any of you were a 7ft big man who could score at will, would you really want to be surrounded by stand still shooters who suck at defense and a 6ft PG who is really a shooting guard? I know i wouldn’t.

I’m by no means sticking up for Dwight, just the same as I wasn’t sticking up for Melo last year when he asked for the trade. I also didn’t stick up for Bron, Bosh, or Amare when they all left their teams. I’m old school, so I like when players play the majority of their career in one place. But sometimes a player needs to switch teams if management isn’t doing the right thing. If 5yrs from now, Derrick Rose is still surrounded by Noah, Deng, and Boozer, without any rings, and no other all-star caliber player to help him, then I would have no problem with him leaving Chicago. But that’s just me.

  • Tee

    @ bieber news

Yeah he was the 2 at ucla. What’s ur point? He needs to get others involved more. He won’t do it. And his careless turnovers started that 12-0 run at the end of the half

    @ Heckler

I gotta add Rose is 10X better the finisher at the rim than russwest.

  • K Dizzle

    @ Chi-rilla

    all fair points.
I still don’t think Dwight can score at will. He’s like Lebron in that when Lebron’s jumper is falling, you can’t do anything to him. When’s Dwight’s jumphook is fallin, it’s a wrap. That being said, he shot 6-17 vs Tony Battie when his team needed points so I still don’t trust him.
I’ll never compare Rose to Dwight cuz even if in 5 years, Rose asks for a trade:
    1) We’ll never hear about it cuz Rose would just go to management n it’ll never get out
    2) Rose would never publicly ask for a trade then proceed to publicly call out his teammates. That whole irony annoys me.
“Y’all ain’t good enough for me to win, but I need you guys to step up” What?
Dwight gettin by on rep right now cuz if we did a center ranking over the last few days, he’d be behind Gortat, Gasol, Bynum cuz they makin an impact in whether their team wins or loses. Dwight is barely gettin 20-10′s vs powerforwards n backups…

    ****Question to everybody else****
Has anybody seen Dwight pull out that Tim Duncan bankshot he brought out last season?
I’m askin cuz I haven’t seen it once n it was actually fallin last season…

  • silky

Dwight is a B… plain and simple. cares more about being famous than being good at ball. they surrounded him with shooters at 4 positions so teams couldn’t just collapse on him. his response; little to no post game development. they gave him a guard and a point forward to run pick and rolls with him. fail. they sign the only dude who could body him up in the conference away from one of their main rivals. whine. no help my ass. and I honestly don’t think SVG is near the worst coach in the league- he is just a skiles type who gets results for 3-4 yrs but players tune him out after a while cuz his style is abrasive.

when the going gets tough u see peoples true character… or lack thereof. last week before the Boston game they were cruisin- great record, hitting shots. how quick it turns.

  • http://www.bettlejuiceXs3.com Chicagorilla

    @KDizzle

I agree with you on those points. DWight has a Diva-like personality about him that makes me cringe. I hate to see my big man smiling and acting goofy ALL the time.

    @Silky
I won’t argue with you as far as Dwights post game development goes. But lets not pretend that SVG is even on Skile’s level. At least Skiles teams come out and play defense. He only wears thin because athletes are p^$$y’s and can’t take being yelled at.
SVG on the other hand thinks that the 3pt shot is the best shot in the game even though it’s the lowest percentage shot. And running a pick n roll with Dwight is just about as dumb as running ISO plays for Steve Nash.
Pat EWing did a great job of teaching Dwight the post game. He also helped make Dwight into the defensive player he is. Dwight just needs to continue to develope. Once his athleticism leaves he’ll be in trouble.

    tee…

woah there cowboy…i was just piggy backing your comment of you thinking westbrook should play the 2 or whatever you said. i just threw out he had experience in doing so.

    also

i love how people can sit and put out the disclaimer of backing off the magic cuz dwight’s teammats suck…i would say, if the knicks had role players like

    ryan anderson
    jameer nelson
    hedo turkoglu
    jason richardson
    glen davis

that some would say it’d be an upgrade over or at least just as even as

    jared jefferies
    toney douglas
    landry fields
    bill walker
    shumpert

love how people can use discretion for the magic, but not the knicks.

  • http://datpiff.com beiber newz

why is it okay to discuss sending dwight to the major city chicago, but it is bad bad bad to talk about paul going to the lakers

    hmmmm

anyway, i wuld like to see dwight and rose 2gether on the same team
but only one of those guys can be a max player with the new cba.

  • First & Foremost

People can use discretion for the Magic because they recognize Dwight is by himself. He doesn’t have teammates that get invited to tryout for Team USA or voted to All-Star games on name recognition alone.

Orlando didn’t gut their team to “win now” and aren’t winning now. They made lateral movements that didn’t pay off.

Come on, at least make the comparison apples to pears. If you name the other 4 starters of Orlando and their 6th man, name the other 4 starters of NY.

  • http://datpiff.com beiber newz

love how we can bash the cast of ny but support them when trying to disprove me. ironic

  • silky

    * said skiles type. agree he isn’t on the same level. even Riley was like that a bit; coaches so hard and demands so much that it gets tuned out.

I suppose it’s just hard to watch Dwight after the golden generation of centers, and if they had one on one all game…. it’d be like a Texas buffet. and this clown is complaining

  • http://datpiff.com beiber newz

fNf ur absolutely right though, me not including chandler/amare/melo in my analysis

    however, some would say amare/tyson=dwight

melo gets no love from ppl here nayway.

but i was more so just looking at the supporing cast around the stars. and how people don’t give any leeway to the knicks for not having a stellar support cast.

but still, lebron aint have the best cast in cleveland and still got the job done. so no excuses. i jus don’t like how ppl can open their eyes to the magic while shunning the knicks for being in a similar boat.

  • Bilal

    @BNewz
Noone is backing off the magic because dwight’s teammates suck. Quite the opposite, we are saying that he has tools aroind him to help lead the magic. Yes put the orlando starters on the knicks bench and you would have a good team. But everything doesn’t revolve around the knicks or the lakers.

Silky said it best “Dwight is a B” but pretty much all the nba players are (BNewz if you call out Deng for his injury so help me God). The funny thing is and it pains me to say it but this is all Jordans fault, they all want the publicity of Jordan. He made the nba more than basketball. They want the fame, I think they forgot about the winning though.

  • http://datpiff.com beiber newz

hahahaha i won’t call out deng’s injury. i like his spirit anyway. i respect dude because he plays the right way. (when he actually plays) :D jk

you blame jordan ? i’ll take it up a notch…i blame social media. and media in general.

  • Mt. Pleasant

Amare and Chandler are part of Melo’s supporting cast. It drops off after that but thats more than dwight has to work with.

I don’t think the magic are that far off. They have a dominant center, a bunch of gunners and some decent role players. If they could draft a wing slasher/scorer and a decent PG they’d be fine.

  • Mt. Pleasant

And if they continue to suck the rest of this year they should be able to get one or the other.

  • http://datpiff.com beiber newz

people here said chandler is overrated. (also bashed his contract)

amare….has simply not played like STAT this year. he’s played like a decent all star, statically speaking though. but more games than not, he’s been regular.

melo has put up some crazy box score stats across the board…i watched every game so far. and he is a good facilitator when passing. people shun melo’s exploits because the knicks are what, 7-13? fair, but still, he is doing what he can, can’t knock him because the cast around him isn’t performing. a team record is a team thing. melo has played well, yet everyone on this site is saying TRADE MELO, as if he’s the problem. if anything, guys should be saying trade amare.

  • http://datpiff.com beiber newz

i wanna be clear..i like amare though..and i think he’ll wake up and become a beast again. but something is wrong with him, i dunno if something is bothering him, but mentally it looks as though he’s checked out. i hope something clicks. as soon as amare plays as well as melo is playing that tandem would close out games.

  • EN FUEGO

What the…? Funny how biazed newz writes his points to make a point. Weak.

You know what’s wrong with the Knicks. You’re just too stupid proud to admit it. Too traumatized to be caught wrong again. HAHA

Melo is what’s wrong with NYK. After 20 games last year, they were 11-9, their best 20-game record since 2001. They were 9th best in the league at offense, led the league in blocks and were 9th in steals.

There ain’t nothing wrong with Amare. Throughout his career, Amare never had a problem with his team’s other superstar. He built chemistry with Marion, he built chemistry with Starbury, with Nash and had no problem with Gallo and Felton.

The shit is all on Melo. Carmelo Anthony is a cancer. How the hell else do you fuck up a free flowing offense like D’Antoni’s when you are one of the league’s pure scorers?

  • control

Speaking of new york, they put up a HUGE win tonight against the powerhouse, former champs in Detroit. How is Chandler shooting 70% from the field for the season, and not getting more touches? The only pass the guy gets is from the rim, it’s insane. Melo put in 25 points and only took 14 shots, an MVP-like performance if I’ve ever seen one…good job knicks! *slow clap*
