We Reminisce: Chris Webber’s 51-Point, 26-Rebound Demolition
This morning the Internet is buzzing about Dwight Howard‘s monstrous 45-point, 23-rebound annihilation of the Golden State Warriors. The last player to have at least 45 points and 23 rebounds in a game was Chris Webber back in 2001, when he racked up 51 points and 26 boards against the Pacers. Not to take anything away from Dwight – what he did last night was impressive – but he did miss almost 20 free throws, and he did it against the Warriors (they don’t exactly roll out Wilt and Bill Russell in the post).
What Webber did in ’01 was AMAZING.
C-Webb’s performance came against a really, really good Indiana Pacers team that would find itself on the cusp of a championship a short time later. They had great veterans around a young, atheltic Jermaine O’Neal at center.
Watch this video of Webber’s performance – he just destroys J.O. Down the stretch, when Webber takes O’Neal to the cup from the top of the key for an and-one, you can Indiana’s Travis Best laughing on the Pacers’ bench.

Thank you for showing the contrast between a player going and getting 40 & 20, and a player having those numbers due to shitty coaching. What Dwight did is still impressive but it was a late Christmas present from Mark Jackson.

As a Laker fan I’ve never liked the Queens but have always admired C-Webb’s game. Great midrange game, an outstanding passer and a pretty good postgame.
I recently rewatched this game and to be fair – he took almost 50 shots, he even said it himself that he missed a sh*tload of bunnies
