Jeremy Lin Dominates Again; Kobe Bryant’s Milestone in Philly

All hail Jeremy Lin. That’s now two games in a row that the seldom-used backup has torched opponents and lit the Garden on fire as if he was John Starks. Lin dropped 28 and eight in New York’s 99-88 win over Utah. Beast? Lin seems to finish every three point play, make all the right decisions out of the pick-n-roll and has even shown off his deep ball. At one point in the second half, he dropped a high-arching shot and then trotted back on defense with a swag unlimited smirk before sticking his tongue out (It looked like he had been sucking on some blue lollipops during the quarter break). After seeing that, we immediately loaded up 2K and edited him to all 99s (No we didn’t. But we kinda wanted to). Without Amar’e Stoudemire (his brother recently passed away in a car accident), and later ‘Melo, the Knicks were sporting some of the most sandlot lineups we’ve ever seen. At one point, the broadcast showed a team huddle at the free-throw line, and the guys in white were Lin, Steve Novak, Jared Jeffries, Iman Shumpert and Landry FieldsCarmelo Anthony left the game with an injury to his groin, and then re-emerged looking like he was violating the dress code in about four different ways. He was also standing at times on the Utah bench, which was weird … John Wall gave us a sampler of what he can do when he’s on. A little of this, a little of that, Wall (31 points) made three or four plays in Washington’s 111-108 overtime win against Toronto that were just special. At one point in the second half, Wall was so hyped he was screaming “IT’S MY CITY MAN! THIS IS MY CITY” to the front row … Most random teammates to score 30 a piece in the same game: Linas Kleiza and Jerryd BaylessAmir Johnson didn’t have the greatest shooting night, and on one possession in particular, he got snuffed by Wall twice, got it back, and then had his shot punched by Trevor Booker … We wonder if this guy, wearing the greatest custom Wizards jersey ever, was at the game … The Clippers went out and overcame a 15-point deficit to beat the Tragic by five in overtime, and then found out later that they’ve probably lost Chauncey Billups for good. Chris Paul went off for 29 points, but Billups went down grabbing his foot in the fourth quarter and had to be carried to the locker room. There are rumors he’s done for the year with an Achilles tear … The Clippers single-covered Dwight Howard all night, and got away with it during the fourth quarter. Superman had 31 and 12 after the third, but went for just two points and two rebounds when it really mattered … Tim Duncan (19 points, 17 rebounds, five blocks) passed Charles Oakley for 20th on the all-time rebounding list with 12,206 in San Antonio’s five-point win over the Grizz. Memphis probably should’ve picked someone else to take their final shot. They gave it to Rudy Gay, who was only 9-for-26, and he promptly air mailed it … Houston ran through Denver with a nine-point win behind 25 from Luis ScolaKeep reading to hear about Kobe’s record-setting night …

When J.R. Smith sent his Tweet out about how many seats does MSG hold and how many does the Staples Center hold. It was obvious that he was talking about New York and the Clips. Dont tell Laker fans that though unless u want to start a war…

  • JDish

Luis Scola, what’s Kevin Love’s foot taste like?? Oh Snap!

You get the feeling Scola said something UN-kindly, with a pinch of elbow at one end of the court, … and then on the other end KLove gives him a little cloths-line throw down with a pinch of foot in his face. OUCH!

  • Big Island

KDizzle – I’m pretty sure Kareem has a say about whether or not Kobe is the greatest scorer in the history of the Lakers. You know, the guy who is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer? Actually, I concede that argument because he had a few seasons in Milwaukee. My apologies. Carry on here. Nothing to see…

  • Franchise

LOL at sum of the posts today, hilarious stuff.

But on the reals tho most of yall play or played ball, you ever wonder why u can make 50 free-throws in a row in practice easy, then game time you can barely make a couple? Because therez a mental aspect of Basketball that can’t be practiced or coached. You either got it or you don’t. Shoa-Lin (love the nickname) has it, and coupled with decent enough skill he’ll make it. With BDiddy, Douglas, Shum and the rest it wont be easy, but he will make it. Book it. Take a look back at his career and what it took to get where he is and you’ll see why.

Franchise – I was a 70% guy forever. For a million dollars I could never go 10-10, but I never ever went under 7 either. I had a couple of 9-10 goes at it, but never in my life did I ever hit 50 in a row. I can’t hit 50 layups in a row. And I still hate my old coach, even though he passed away, for making me grab the rim 10 times in a row at the end of practice. Vertical, no steps. I’m a 6’3″ white guy with NO hops!! WHY COACH GIPSON?!?!?! WHYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

    Oh, about the Blazer game…

That was infuriating. To see that ref make such a terrible call and then not even have the option to review? How the hell can it work like that? Shouldn’t they be able to review ANYTHING that can determine the outcome of a game?

    3 other observations:
    1) The Blazers should not be a bad defensive rebounding team, given the players they have. That was embarrassing to see the Thunder repeatedly get several shots off a possession.
    2) Durant was terrible in the fourth and OT. As soon as he saw any daylight, no matter how much time was on the clock, he’d throw up a shot. You know, the kind of shot he can get whenever he wants. And when he tried to drive, he’d get stripped or throw up a bad shot every time. I know it’s so much easier to hate on Westbrook, but man. Westbrook made a couple of bad decisions as well, but he was much more effective than Durant.
    3) Aldridge was the best player on the court all night. It’s a shame he doesn’t get more attention.

i hope this lin tour has showed people

    1) mike diantoni’s system does in fact require good pg play, one that is adept to the pick and role

    2) how much better the knicks offense is with a pg who plays like a pg

    3) that diantoni isn’t a bad coach. he just needs the pieces that make his playbook go.

also…i will reserve judgment on who is the best laker ever when kobe’s career comes to an end. if along the way, kobe ends up keeping pace to top the #1 scorer of all time, and along the way getting his 6th ring, i think then the conversation will be easier to have. talking about the if’s now means nothing, only when it comes to fruition will it make an impact in anyone’s opinions.

about the blazers game…i see no reason as to why the refs weren’t protecting the nba’s golden child.

to end…it was nice that dime pointed out the lineup the knicks had on the floor at one point. it’s baffles me how this whole year when i keep saying the knicks don’t really have championship level role players around amare and melo and tc that guys ignore that aspect. it takes more than stars to win and i thought the mavericks would have showed people that. thay had a lot of people around dirk and tc (and marion, who was balling in that series).

kareen still the greatest lakers scorer… there is NO DEFENSE to the sky hook…

kobe might be the greatest laker ever though… besides shaq and gasol… did he really have any other teammates? magic definitely had better teammates… not sayin kobe is it right now, but let’s come back to this when his career is over…

  • http://datpiff.com beiber newz

yea hakasan, and to speak further on kobe, i get the feeling if kobe was having the season dirk was, he would get condemned like no one has been condemned before including the b.c. time period. what i mean is, if kobe saw a drop off in production like dirk has, if he was forced to sit out games, if when he played he looked like a shell of himself, people wuld have already written the book on kobe. but i feel dirk has gotten the, o well whatever pass.

@EN FUEGO I don’t know how serious you take Wikipedia but according to them Magic demanded a trade because him and Paul Westhead got into it during the 81-82 season. Westhead was fired afterwards and Magic was booed across the league, even by Laker fans. And I didn’t know they signed him to a 25 year $25 million contract. WTF!? They really expected Magic to play until he was damn near 50? This ain’t hockey goddammit!!

  • K Dizzle

@ hakasan “there is NO DEFENSE to the sky hook…”

U ever seen anyone defend Mike or Kobe’s baseline fadeaway?

  • Big Island

Beiber – nobody is getting on Dirk because of a few things. It’s a bizarre season, lockout, everyone knows that he played out of his mind down the stretch and the Mavs got hot to win last season, and he’s just Dirk. You’re right in that people would jump all over Kobe even though it is a bizarre season. But a big part of that is Kobe is either LOVED or HATED. There is no middle ground on him. You love the dude, I hate the dude. You won’t find 3 people in the world who don’t feel one extreme or the other. To most guys not named Big Island, Dirk is just Dirk.

    from yahoo.com

The Rising Stars Challenge will feature teams comprised of both rookies and sophomores. TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal will serve as the general managers and conduct a draft on Feb. 16 to determine each team.

i actually like this. it stops the annual potential embarrassment of the league’s sophomores

and it’s just cool to see who guys will draft. i will watch that part cuz it’s exciting. i bet kyrie irving gets taken pretty high over a handful of sophomores

  • http://datpiff.com beiber newz

wall and rubio could be on the same team potentially…

blake and wall could be on the same team

shit, too many combinations to think of…

i think barkley will pick the better team.

  • Big Island

Barkley picked AI #1 all time in the all time best players draft last season. I can’t wait to see him draft Walton or someone.

  • JBaller

    @Mt. P
I agree, if they can review out of bounds and shot clock calls, they should be able to review goaltending, but espn reports that it is against the rules. They should basically be able to review any close call in the final 2 min.

    @JDizzle
In previous collective bargaining agreements teams figured out how to pay superstars for years to come to reduce the amount against the salary cap. Magic’s 25 mil, 25 year contract allowed the lalers to pay him only 1 mil a year in terms of salary cap. It’s like winning the lottery and taking the annuity instead of the big check. At least that’s what I think was going on.

  • http://datpiff.com beiber newz

omg…now guys are gonna start pretending like they always knew monta was the truth. you’ll find out why.

If you’re JR Smith, shots matter more than seats. There’s no way he’ll get ‘em at MSG.

So that’s how Coach Riles got his job. $1M a year back in the 80s was insane money. And a 25 yr deal today is downright insane. Not feeling Wiki that much too, but if it were true, that HIV thing was a bummer, who wouldn’t wanna find out if both sides could live with a contract like that.

I just read up on Jeremy Lin’s story. Unbelievable. He’s a walking feel-good-made-for-TV movie. There are so many obstacles he overcame during his journey to the league.

How does a guy who averages very good numbers as a senior and was captain of his high school team that went 32-1 and beat Mater Dei for the state title, and won player of the year awards not get offered any scholarships??

  • EN FUEGO

We’re not the only ones wondering…

    Wiki says:

“Joe Lacob, Warriors’ majority owner and Stanford booster, said Stanford’s failure to recruit Lin ‘was really stupid. The kid was right across the street. You can’t recognize that, [then] you’ve got a problem.’”

  • http://www.zwani.com/graphics/funny_pictures/images/88funny-pictures128.jpg JAY

Straight up… it’s a race thing. If he were white or black, he’d have at least a dozen schools offering him scholarships.
