Kyrie Irving Is A Man Amongst Boys; Andrew Bynum Feels DeMarcus Cousins’ Pain

Kyrie Irving

Remember when everyone was so concerned about taking Kyrie Irving No. 1 overall this summer? Between his ROY play so far this year and last night’s dominating performance in the Rising Stars Challenge, he’s shut everyone up. Last night he won MVP by leading Team Chuck to a 146-133 victory over Team Shaq by going OFF for 34 points, nine assists and not missing a three (in eight attempts) all night. Despite the presence of Linsanity, unbelievable highlights from John Wall and Evan Turner‘s forgotten about near-trip-dub, Irving showed he’s the real deal … On a night when there was less defense than an early ’90s Loyola Marymount game, John Wall (17 points) capped off the night with a behind-the-back dunk. The greatest part might’ve been the following play when he tried to do it again: Greg Monroe played it off like he wasn’t going to stop him, and then snuck in and stole it … When was the last time you saw two point guards – Irving and Wall – combine for a lob? They did it on Wall’s first play of the game… and then Wall came down and smashed Norris Cole‘s layup into the stands. That was more embarrassing for N. Cole than the time on Thursday night when he dunked and nearly broke his face … Ricky Rubio was playing/passing like a 2000 Rookie Challenge version of Jason Williams. He had one pass in the second half where he threw sort of a reverse behind-the-back. Awesome. He also had a crazy move off the screen-n-roll in the first half, splitting the defense by spinning the ball around his waist and scoring … MarShon Brooks checked in and must’ve confused this with the And1 Mixtape Tour. We know this game is low key, at least defensively, but one of the first times he touched it, he cleared a side, dribbled in place for five seconds, lost the ball, backed it up and then started over again, going into the lane and throwing some junk up. Then he followed it up with an ugly dunk attempt that earned him the first boos of the night … In the first half, they had Jeremy Lin‘s parents on the Kiss Cam, and they refused to kiss, wouldn’t put their phones down. The crowd went crazy … Benny the Bull tried to get Victor Cruz to do his Salsa dance on the JumboTron at one point and got blatantly shot down … If you’re one of those people who LOVES the sound of a swish, you should’ve been in the house last night. Especially during the second quarter when Kemba Walker and Kyrie Irving started trading rainbows threes, they were making beautiful music out there (the rim mics could’ve been the loudest thing in the arena) … … Keep reading to hear what crazy thing Popovich said to Tony Parker the first time he saw him play …

    My point is not that Howard is a failure, nor that anyone lacking a ring cannot be considered great, but the point of suiting up for evety game us to win, advance and ultimately take the ring. Howard’s trophy case is a meaningless shrine without a chip, so he should keep working on making himself and perhaps more importantly his team better. May be shoot a few hundred free throws instead of shooting at imaginary enemies.

    It’s also true that grown ups sometimes make mistakes and have grown up problems like gambling and stds. But at least they came from men doing what men have always done with too much power. I respect jfk more for banging marilyn monroe than I would if he was jumping rope.

    if i had to rank the dunk contest participants from favorite to win to underdog in a crop full of what people call non-household names it’d go like this

    paul george
    chase budinger
    jeremy evans
    derrick williams

    @AB and D.H.

    I agree that it’s a bit out of touch to get on Dwight for playing video games. No one can concentrate on basketball for 24hrs a day. It’s not healthy.
    But lets not act like Dwight ain’t out there doing his share of f^cking. His baby moms is one of the biggest hoes there is. I don’t think i have to post the link of her popping that p^%%y, dry humping another woman, dropping her pants and generally showing her ass in front Ludacris, Terrll Owens and an entire beach party just to win some dance contest.

    While Bird, Magic, Mike, and all those cats before them may not have been saints. These guys today aren’t either.

    @AB
    And you assesment that Dwight’s trophy case puts him with the GOAT center just further lets me know how out of your mind you must really be!!!!
    Dwights trophy case is filled with what? DPOY awards, rebounding titles and a weak ass olympic medal that we could send college kids to go win? Because he didn’t win ROTY. He hasn’t won a ring. He hasn’t won a scoring title. while he has won a the shot block title a few years, that dude barely gets 3 a game!!! That’s not even close to the GOAT centers.
    I have no problem with you defending Dwight. but you went overboard by claiming he’s one of the GOATs already. Until Shaq and Yao retired last year, he wasn’t eve the GOAT of his own Era!

    @ Chi-rilla & Austin

    Maybe Kobe meant:
    Wilt – 100 points
    Kobe – 81 points
    MJ – 69 points

    Which assumes that he forgot or doesn’t know that
    Wilt also owns: 78, 73 twice and 72
    David Thompson got 73
    Elgin and DRob got 71
    That’s my theory

    @Chicagorilla — I’m sure Dwight does get it in, but if his biggest “vice” is playing too many video games, I’m just saying that’s not as bad as Magic’s biggest vice or Jordan’s biggest vice.

    If you look at the numbers, Dwight is right there with those guys. Three DPOYs and he’s gonna be 1st team All-Defensive Team until he retires (subjective honors, but still); fourth all-time in career FG percentage; 11th all time in rebounding average; 20th all time in blocks per game in an era where blocks are harder to come by; career 18.3 ppg is higher than a lot of Hall of Famers; top 25 all time in PER…

    Howard is headed to the Hall of Fame. Off the top of my head I’d say he’s already Top 10 for centers all-time.

    @Big Freeze if I had a choice at who I wanted to shoot an open 3 between Rasheed and Metta I’m picking Sheed 11 times outta 10.

    Watching the all star practice and they’re shooting from half court. Melo hit 4 in a row all net. Meanwhile nearly all of Rondo’s attempts hit all empty seats. And Craig Sager looks like a big ass cantaloupe!

    @AB

    no he’s not and has a long road ahead of him.

    Wilt
    Kareem
    Hakeem
    Shaq
    Russell
    Admiral
    Ewing
    Moses
    Duncan (not a PF)
    Artis Gilmore
    Mikan
    Lanier
    Walt Bellamy
    Alonzo Mourning
    Willis Reed
    Cowens
    Parish
    Spencer Haywood
    Nate Thurmond

    then Dwight.
    You chalking Dwight up for all these future awards, but what happens if Dwight tears an ACL? What happens when he can’t just jump over everyone anymore? He basically becomes Kwamae Brown. That’s the reason everyone talks about him adding skill to his game. He’ll be useless if/once his athleticism goes away.

  • http://www.bettlejuiceXs3.com Chicagorilla

    @Kdizzle

    I thought about that. but i took into account who were are talking about here. Do you really think Kobe Bryant of all people would not know the correct scoring statistics? I have a hard time believing that he doesn’t know scoring stats.

  • http://www.bettlejuiceXs3.com Chicagorilla

    @AB

    i forgot Bob Mcadoo and Elvin Hayes

  • That’s What’s Up

    the way I view Dwight is he is like John Coffey on The Green Mile.

    Massive man, incredible specimen and we knew he could have taken out all the guards on that whole cell block in about 20 seconds – but he just never did

  • http://ufl.edu Big Freeze

    Not that it matters, but I got Daron Williams winning the skills challenge, Ryan Anderson winning the 3 point shootout, and Jeremy Evans winning the dunk contest.

  • That’s What’s Up

    I just came to the realization that Tyler Perry and Cheryl Miller are the same person

    I pick Kevin Love for the 3pt contest. Not because i think he’ll win (I think Durant could catch fire) but because if he wins it’ll be the first time ever someone who led the NBA in rebounds won the 3pt contest.

    @62

    Fucking hilarious! Diary of a mad black women’s basketball player!

  • control

    Damn, that was a waste of a night…

  • sh!tfaced

    looool. hope it somehow reaches spike lee and give reggie a long overdue payback…

    if ainge pisses out a miracle and lands dwight, there’s gonna be a nickname waiting for him…

    the slam dunk contest is now officially a circus… paul george got it mixed up – should’ve dedicated that lights out/glow in the dark dunk to bird…

  • http://www.bettlejuiceXs3.com Chicagorilla

    Not gonna lie. Chase and Paul G are my guys but that shyt was terrible.
    Add that to the three point contest being a little down, as they didn’t seem to hit a high amount of shots, and it was a pretty bland Sat night.

    I would’ve rather spent my time watching “Ghost dog: the way of the Samurai.”

  • K Dizzle

    @ Chi-rilla – take that back. Watched Ghost Dog last week…won’t be gettin those minutes back…
