Kevin Durant Unveils His New Sneaker: The Nike KD VI

As we speak, Kevin Durant is back in his hometown unveiling his latest signature sneaker: the Nike KD VI. Not only does this shoe take it back to Durant’s roots, it also draws inspiration from the precision craftsmanship of a wristwatch.

Designer Leo Chang incorporated many small details into the shoe, including an ultra-thin two layer upper with Flywire for lockdown support, an optical illusion logo on the tongue revealing “35” and “6” in negative space, radial brushed texture marks on the midsole, the KD logo and Nike Swoosh, and a multi-layered hexagon traction pattern.

The performance elements were just as impressive. The KD VI features new tongue construction for a more superior fit, Hyperfuse construction, Nike Zoom in the forefoot and a Max Air unit in the heel, and finally, a data-informed traction pattern for non-slip control.

“As I look to evolve my game, my shoe plays a big role,” says Durant. “The KD VI has the low and light feel that Leo and I concepted from the start and I’m excited to get out and play in it next season.”

The lead colors of the first colorway — teal and yellow — are a homage to the Seat Pleasant Activity Center, which was KD’s second home as a kid.

The KD VI will be available in stores in Washington, D.C. on June 29 as part of an exclusive launch. Then beginning July 3, the shoe will be available globally at select retailers and Nike.com. On June 27, the shoe will hit NikeiD. Future colorways include the Nike KD VI “D.C. Preheat” (June 29) the “Meteorology” (Aug. 3), the “NYC 66” (Aug. 17) and the “Bamboo” (Sept. 14).
