It’s hard to fathom, but it’s been more than 15 years since the seminal basketball movie of our lifetime was released in May of 1998. He Got Game might not have been an Academy Award darling, but we’ll always remember Ray Allen as Jesus Shuttlesworth, and maybe — just maybe — we’re getting a follow-up from the director and Knicks aficionado, Spike Lee.
The U.S. Open invaded Queens this weekend, and Ray Allen was there. So too, was Spike. They met up and snapped a photo together for Lee’s IG page.
While that’s all well and good, Spike teased the photo with a caption that should leave basketball and movie fans excited:
“Jesus And I At The US Open Tonight. We Talked About The Possible Sequel To HE GOT GAME.”
We can’t tell if Spike is kidding or not, but the moment we saw the caption, Chuck D’s baritone came boom bapping to us from the ether: “Amongst the fiends / Controlled by the screens / What does it all mean / All this s**t I’m seein.”
If a He Got Game sequel is true, then we’re eagerly anticipating the possible young NBA star that will play Jesus’ son, hopefully named Christ, and whatever it’ll take to bring Denzel back (we can do without the Milla Jovovich character). Too bad Rosario Dawson‘s Lala Bonilla character gets caught trying to persuade Jesus to attend Big State; we liked her.
And what happens to Jesus after deciding on his college? Oh right.
What do you think about a “He Got Game” sequel?
