Video: LaMarcus Aldridge Suffers Back Contusion On Scary Fall

This is terrible. Less than two weeks removed from his return to the court following a sprained ankle and a strained groin that kept him out from Feb. 12 to March 1, LaMarcus Aldridge suffered a back contusion during a nasty fall against the Spurs on Wednesday night.

With less than a minute elapsed in the third quarter, Aldridge drove right on Tim Duncan for a leaner in the lane. But Aron Baynes came over to help and inadvertently undercut Aldridge as he was in the air. LMA landed awkwardly on his back, as you’ll see and according to reports he suffered a back contusion. X-Rays after the game came back negative for more extensive damage, but as Joel Freeman of the Oregonian notes on Twitter below, Aldridge had surgery in April of 2012 to repair a labral tear on the same right side of the hip he landed on.

Worse yet, LMA was finally getting back into the groove after missing three weeks in February. In 20 minutes, he was 6-of-11 for 14 points and four rebounds before his fall. He even hit a high-arcing shot that went over the backboard and through the iron against Duncan earlier in the game.

No timetable has been set on his return, and it’s still unclear on the extent of the contusion. The Blazers fell to the Spurs in San Antonio, 103-90.
