Q-Tip Scoops LeBron Decision; Says Durant May Come To Knicks

If you’re anything like us, you idolized A Tribe Called Quest‘s funky rhythms and verbal darts during their heyday in the early 1990s. Since then, emcee Q-Tip has gone on to various solo projects, but it was his Twitter prognostication during LeBron James‘ free agency that scooped the biggest names in NBA reporting, and now he’s attempting to foreshadow some other outrageous NBA developments.

Who knew the St. Albans, Queens native was such an NBA insider? On July 4, before even Chris Sheridan had announced LeBron James would be coming home to Cleveland, Tip dropped this bombshell on Twitter:

That’s almost a full week before Sheridan went live with his news James would be heading back to Ohio:

Since then, Tip found time to add to his prescient musings on NBA free agency, tweeting that ‘Melo was staying in New York. True, the New York Daily News‘ Frank Isola beat him by a couple days, but it proved prophetic nonetheless a day before it was made semi-official with most media outlets conceding it was going to happen today:

Tip added on Twitter yesterday that ‘Bron is not only going back to Cleveland, but he’s going to be a Cavs owner in 6-8 years, and he’s already got an agreement with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert to purchase a stake in the team. Perhaps this supposed consensus transpired during James and Gilbert’s tête-à-tête this past Sunday when they reconciled under the radar of everyone — except, perhaps, Q-Tip.

Not only that, but Tip’s “source” says — due to his relationship with former Thunder reserve guard and current Knicks coach Derek FisherKevin Durant will be joining ‘Melo in New York if the Thunder fail to win a title next season. Keep in mind, the max deal KD signed in the summer of 2010 runs through the 2015-16 season, so he’d have to get dealt to the Knicks if this were to come true. We can’t believe we’re treating this as real, but Q-Tip did predict ‘Bron’s decision really early.

ESPN’s Marc Stein, Brian Windhorst, Chris Broussard, Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc J. Spears better watch out, there’s a new NBA savant who may be scooping all of them.

Besides all the NBA clairvoyance, we still count Tribe’s second and third releases, The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders, as two of the finest hip hop albums ever dropped by a group, and certainly the greatest back-to-back unveilings of our lifetime. But his LeBron-‘Melo scoops are a close second.

(Thanks to Uproxx’s The Smoking Section for bringing Q-Tip’s prophesy to our attention)

Is there any way Q-Tip can see the NBA future?
