Sixers Contingent Watches Saric In Spain; Brown Compares Him To Diaw

Young stars from the City of Brotherly Love’s team are already living up to their town’s moniker. Philadelphia 76ers cornerstones Michael Carter-Williams, Nerlens Noel, and Joel Embiid are in Spain watching future teammate Dario Saric play in the FIBA World Cup.

Embiid chronicled the trio’s movements on social media over the past two. Not only are he, Carter-Williams, and Noel supporting Saric, but they’re also working on their games.

Philadelphia GM Sam Hinkie and coach Brett Brown joined Carter-Williams, Noel, and Embiid for Croatia’s game against Puerto Rico yesterday.

After Saric helped the Croatians to a 105-83 win by scoring 15 points (5-5 FGs), grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out three assists, he met up with his Philly brethren. This is your future, Sixers fans:

The 20 year-old Saric was fantastic in World Cup group play, pacing 3-2 Croatia in efficiency while ranking second on his team in points (13.2) and rebounds (6.6) per game. We’ve certainly been impressed with what we’ve seen from the twelfth pick of June’s draft so far – Embiid and Brown have as well.

Brown on Saric, via Road To The Association:

“From a skills perspective, he’s got the ability to pass, he sees the floor so well, he’s got the ability to rebound and lead the break himself as a point forward, like some of the great point forwards. I’ve had the opportunity to coach Boris Diaw for many years in my 12 years with the Spurs. There’s some similarities that I see in Boris and Dario. But all of those things add up to a pretty special player at age 20.”

Yup. We like that comparison, too.
