GIF: Gordon Hayward Catches Donald Sloan For Big Chase-Down Block

Though his team didn’t get the win last night against the Indiana Pacers, Gordon Hayward still put on a show in his homecoming. Watch the ascendant Utah Jazz wing show off his speed and leaping ability by catching Donald Sloan in transition for a chase-down block off of two feet.

Remember when this was LeBron James’ signature? After Hayward caught the four-time MVP under similar circumstances last week and the Jazz began their slow rise to national prominence, it’s high time that league followers recognize Hayward as the new chase-down king.

Oh, and he’s pretty good elsewhere, too. After going off for 30 points (11-15 FGs), eight rebounds, and five assists versus Indy, the 24 year-old is averaging 19.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game on 50.5 percent shooting. His 24.68 PER is fourth in the league among qualified perimeter players.

So much for Hayward not deserving a max contract. Hayward was stretched thin as a primary playmaker in Utah’s stagnant offensive scheme last season, but is thriving under the guidance of Quin Snyder. It’s almost like coaching has a direct influence on player performance!
