Is LeBron James Worried About The Cavaliers? The King Says “RELAX”

The Cleveland Cavaliers are 1-3. They look lost and selfish on offense and flat-out lazy on defense. Tension is already close to boiling over, and the sacrifices necessary for success aren’t being made. But is LeBron James worried? No way. The King went on Twitter today and offered a simple message for those overreacting to the Cavs’ poor start to 2014-2015: “Relax.”

Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers Super Bowl champion quarterback and a noted basketball fan, relayed the same message to fans in September after his team opened this season by losing two of its first three games. Green Bay has since rebounded to go 5-3 at the NFL’s midway point.

James is mostly right. There’s no reason to freak about Cleveland’s struggles. He stressed that building the chemistry and cohesion necessary to be a great team would take time for the Cavaliers, and that’s what their first four games have proven more than anything else.

Is it still surprising that Cleveland has been so ineffective on offense? Absolutely.

A team with James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love shouldn’t struggle to score, especially running a vaunted system like that of coach David Blatt. But the constant ball and player movement and side-to-side action that looked so unstoppable during the exhibition slate has been wholly absent in the regular season for Cleveland thus far. The Cavs’ offense mostly consists of high ball-screens involving James or Irving and a big man, while the other three players on the floor stand idly still as non-threats.

That won’t get it done in the modern NBA, even for a team boasting this much talent. Cleveland ranks dead last in the league by assisting on only 47.8 percent of its baskets, a shockingly low number for a James-led team.

The Cavaliers must get better, and they certainly will. It’s no time for panic, but it’s also not time to “relax,” either. There’s a proper medium between both extremes, and Cleveland will need to find it before getting out of its early season rut for good.

Should we “relax” about Cleveland’s start?
