Andre Drummond Wears Jersey Bearing Misspelled Name Versus Chicago

This season hasn’t exactly gone as planned for Andre Drummond. Chosen by many to emerge as a superstar in 2014-2015 due to a dominant preseason and the influence of Stan Van Gundy, the Detroit Pistons’ center has labored out of the gate. Perhaps wanting to rid himself of those early struggles, Drummond – not the “o,” please – wore a jersey last night against the Chicago Bulls that incorrectly spelled his surname as “Drummund.”

The most humiliating part? It didn’t even work. The 21 year-old played his worst game of the season versus Chicago’s stacked frontline, limited by constant foul trouble en route to two points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes of play as Detroit’s late-game comeback fell short.

Okay, so perhaps the more likely scenario is that it was a simple mistake by team managers. But given the obvious nature of such a gaffe, a strange motivational tactic almost seems just as plausible. Drummond isn’t only the Pistons’ franchise player, but also has a pretty straightforward name. It’s hardly “Jerebko,” “Datomé,” or even “Dinwiddie” in terms of difficulty.

Might this unintentional disrespect light a fire under Drummond that gets his season going? Detroit can only hope.
