Rumor: Known Bulls Free Agent Target Ray Allen Spotted In Chicago?

Might free agent sharpshooter Ray Allen have made his long-awaited playing decision? According to Marc Silverman of ESPN 1000’s “Waddle And Silvy,” the former Chicago Bulls nemesis was spotted in the Windy City on Wednesday.

Allen has been undecided on his NBA future since last season when he was a member of the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat. Conventional wisdom said the 39 year-old would play for whatever team LeBron James did this season, but Allen’s camp has refuted multiple reports that he’s already decided to wear wine and gold of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Bulls were one of several contenders that expressed interest in Allen this summer. In addition to Chicago and Cleveland, the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, and Washington Wizards also courted the future Hall-of-Famer.

Allen most recently said that he’d let a portion of the regular season play out before choosing a team. Might he have seen enough from the Bulls in the first week of competition to sign with Chicago? His presence in the Windy City certainly supports that possibility.

Chicago is 3-1 despite Derrick Rose playing in just two games due to sprained ankles. And though any team could use Allen’s long-range acumen and sense of the moment in crunch-time, the Bulls aren’t even lacking for offense despite the absence of Rose and a general rash of injuries – they rank sixth in offensive efficiency.

Is Allen bound for Chicago long-term? Time will tell, but he’d certainly make what many consider the East’s top contender only more dangerous.
