Video: Steve Blake Offended By Kenneth Faried Screen, So He Puts Him On His Butt

Steve Blake is right around our height, and we actually outweigh him by close to 10 pounds (yes, he’s all svelte muscle, and we’re a dilapidated former HS athlete who smokes cigarettes, but still). Kenneth Faried is nearly half a foot and more than 50 pounds heavier than Blake, but the size discrepancy didn’t matter during the fourth quarter of Portland’s 116-100 win last night when Blake took umbrage with Faried’s screen in his back.

Here’s the 172-pound Blake putting Faried right on the hardwood with an up-close shoulder shiver after getting blindsided by the screen in the back.

We don’t think Kenneth knew Blake was going to retaliate with that much power, and the whole exchange gets even more confusing when you see the enforcer (!) Nate Robinson come in to act as a buffer between the incensed Blake and a partially amused Faried clambering to his feet.

Faried said after the game to CSNNW.com he flopped to make sure the ref saw the infraction, and Blake was assessed a flagrant foul:

“He got mad I back-picked him,” said Faried. “I’m playing offense, I’m making sure my point guard got open, and he ran into the back pick trying to go to my point guard. Then he got mad about it and pushed me. Yeah, I fell down to make sure the ref saw it.”

Blakewas a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range for nine points and four assists in Portland’s win. Faried had 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in the loss.

Either Blake’s size belies a much larger wallop than his dimensions would indicate, or the Manimal is auditioning for the wrestling career we jokingly spoke to him about before the season started.

Blake has a tenacity to him, though. How else to explain Kobe Bryant calling Blake a “psycho competitor” after the Lakers traded him to Portland? When the Mamba describes Blake as a “psycho competitor,” then his shove of Manimal makes a whole lot more sense and almost seems tame.
