Watch 14-Year-Old Stephen Curry Predict NBA Future; Show Off Sweet Shot

Stephen Curry

Right now, Stephen Curry is probably our pick for NBA MVP this season. His Warriors have the top seed in the West, and even though Atlanta briefly passed them for a better overall record — before losing last night — he’s the best player on the best team in the NBA today. So it’s pretty interesting watching a 14-year-old Steph go one-on-one against his brother Seth Curry and opine about a possible NBA future.

Seth Curry is currently playing for the Erie Bayhawks, Orlando’s Developmental League team. But at 14, Steph and his younger brother are around the same size, though it’s pretty clear Steph is a superior player even then. There’s no way anyone — even with a pretty decent shot (that he flings near the hip like Pistol Pete) could have foretold what became of Steph a decade later.

Sportando unearthed the below video, by way of a nostalgic Lang Whitaker, and it shows father Dell and his wife and three children appearing on Toronto Raptors based show, Off The Hardwood, hosted by Paul Jones.

In the video below, Jones asks the Curry brothers if they ever thought about picking up a ball and mitt like father, Dell Curry, who won state championships in both baseball and basketball while growing up Fort Defiance, Virginia.

Steph admits he did when he was younger, but he had another passion that overwhelmed any passing interest in baseball:

“I was better at it — basketball. I wanted to practice it more and try and make it to the pros if I had the chance.”

He’s not strong enough at this point for his contemporary form, but the smooth shooting stroke is already apparent at 14:

You don’t see the shot go in during the episode, but you can hear the nylon sweetly splash.

A decade later, he was tossing game-winning darts:

It’s no wonder he’s become one of the best players in the Association; that was Steph’s plan all along.
