With Kobe Bryant becoming the fifth and fastest player in NBA history to score 30,000 points, Dime is looking at all angles of the five-time champion’s career today. (Hey, we already called him the greatest player since 2000.) It’s equal parts celebration and examination of one of the NBA’s most polarizing and talented players in history. Read More »

I get that “Snake Pool” plays off Kobe Bryant’s “Black Mamba” nickname, and that Nike has a good thing going by marketing around said moniker. The truly perfect name for the Nike Zoom Kobe VII “Snake Pool” edition, though would have been calling it the Nike Zoom Kobe VII “Janus.” A company based on Greek mythology should know the power behind Janus, the Roman two-faced god who signals both an end and a beginning — kind of like Kobe’s remaining time left in Los Angeles. With the NBA season rapidly coming to a close, there’s a good chance your team crashed and burned before making a deep run in the playoffs. Laker fans probably realize they’re on the cusp of a new age, a time that doesn’t include a trip to the Finals every year. Chicago watched its season fall apart with Derrick Rose’s season-ending knee injury. And we don’t even need to talk to Charlotte, Washington or Sacramento fans, if there are any. We can feel their pain. Read More »

We all know Kobe Bryant is a cultured dude who grew up in Italy and has interests in many things all of us couldn’t care less about. So it’s no surprise, especially after Nike did a similar thing with the Kobe VI, that he’d drop a “FC Barcelona” pack for the Nike Zoom Kobe VII as an overseas exclusive. In order to describe these, I need something stronger than the word loud. Read More »

Technically, I spent my entire weekend working. But when you’re going to Team USA practice to catch the best players in the world in their element, attending Converse block parties to see The-Dream and Stalley perform and checking out 20 years worth of Nike and Jordan footwear design and technology, you can take it. This really wasn’t work. And the people at USA Basketball, Nike, Jordan and Converse didn’t want it to be. It was a celebration of the game, the Olympics and our men and women who will be going across the sea to represent us on the hardwood. Read More »

You’re seeing sneakers get more flamboyant seemingly every month, and this new design from the people at Nike Basketball is as wild as they come. Nobody has released better colorways than Kobe Bryant‘s signature line this year, and they keep it up with the Nike Zoom Kobe VII “What The Kobe” edition. Crazy laces, poison dart frog inner lining, paint splattered heel counter with a cheetah and shark upper, and purple Flywire turn this into the Mr. Potato Head of kicks. Read More »
