Florida’s Chandler Parsons leads the best starting five in America

Experience is priceless in college basketball, which is why the Florida Gators have to be considered a legit threat to make another Final Four run and possibly contend for a national championship in 2010-11.

Florida is returning its entire starting five from last season, a group that won 21 games and earned an NCAA Tournament berth: Erving Walker, Kenny Boynton, Chandler Parsons, Alex Tyus and Vernon Macklin. Read More »

Aaron Brooks: “I’m stuck” without an extension in Houston

Aaron Brooks

Houston Rockets’ point guard Aaron Brooks is the reigning NBA Most Improved Player award winner, having averaged 19.6 points and 5.3 assists per game and leading the League in three-pointers made.

With Yao Ming returning from major surgery, Brooks is one of the team’s top options offensively and one of their go-to guys in crunch time. Depending on how you feel about Luis Scola and Kevin Martin, Brooks may be the second-best player on the Rockets, or their top guy when Yao is sidelined. Read More »

Top 5 Carmelo Anthony Game-Winners

Carmelo Anthony, Dime #53

With the trade and no-trade rumors centered on Carmelo Anthony becoming admittedly tiresome, we figured some people might need to be reminded why ‘Melo is so coveted by so many teams and why Denver isn’t so eager to give him up.

Whether you love him or you hate him for (allegedly) wanting out of Denver, you can’t help but respect all he’s done for the Nuggets’ organization. The season before he was drafted out of Syracuse, the Nuggets finished with a miserable 17-65 record. Since then, ‘Melo has led the Nuggets to the playoffs seven straight times. Along the way he’s earned the reputation as arguably the League’s best pure scorer and one of the most clutch players. Read More »

J.R. Smith: “I just want to play basketball”

J.R. Smith (photo. Mark Mann)

With his name put on the trading block (again) about a month ago, J.R. Smith — the Denver Nuggets’ erratic but electric shooting guard — is entering the last year of a contract that will pay him $6 million this season.

It’s not the first time that J.R. was a part of trade rumors, but he’s already stated that he plans on remaining a Nugget for the rest of his career. Read More »

Bad news for Kobe, KG, Dwight: NBA is cracking down on complainers

Kevin Garnett

If I were Kenyon Martin or Kevin Garnett, I would be attending an anger management class as soon as possible. According to reports from ESPN, the NBA is cracking down on players who plan on arguing calls. The referees are receiving a whole new set of rules to follow when it comes to issuing technical fouls.

Players are going to have to think twice before they decide to argue with the refs. Here are the new rules regarding what can constitute a tech: Read More »

Josh Smith could end Dwight Howard’s hold on NBA Defensive Player of the Year

Josh Smith

As a player who came into the NBA with few discernible skills aside from leaping, dunking, and impeccable timing while blocking shots, Josh Smith has put himself into the conversation as one of the premier defensive forces and most unique all-around talents in the League

From the time he burst onto the scene as a high school phenom at Oak Hill Academy (VA), Smith has always been a threat to send ill-advised layups into the fifth row. Read More »

We Reminisce: Carmelo Anthony Destroys Paul Millsap

Fresh off a Game 6 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009, Carmelo Anthony developed a new swagger in his game after finally getting a glimpse of what’s beyond the first round of the playoffs. In his first game of the 2009-10 season against the division rival Utah Jazz – in which he dropped 30 points, eight rebounds and five assists – ‘Melo intercepted a pass thrown by Paul Millsap and viciously threw it back in his face. Whether or not ‘Melo is traded, the fans won’t forget about this one.

Hedo Turkoglu will rediscover his game in Phoenix

Hedo Turkoglu (photo. National Post)

After cashing in on Orlando’s run to the 2009 NBA Finals with a sizable free-agent deal in Toronto , it didn’t take Hedo Turkoglu very long to earn his second benching in nearly four years.

Having missed a game due to a supposed “stomach virus,” Turkoglu was spotted by T-Dot fans at a downtown nightclub in the Yorkville district of the city. After several fans reported the incident to the Raptors management, Turkoglu was disciplined, and later requested a trade at the end of an overall bad season with his new team. Read More »

Top 5 Sixth Man Of The Year Contenders In 2010-11

Chase Budinger

As all great basketball minds know, the sixth man position is just as valuable as a starter. Every team needs someone capable of providing a spark of instant offense off the bench when their team is down, or when the starters are taking a breather. There have been numerous winners since the award was given out in 1982 (25 to be exact), from former Celtic great Kevin McHale all the way to Ben Gordon – who became the first rookie to win the award.

Last season, Hawks swingman Jamal Crawford took the award home after averaging 18.0 points per game. This season, there are a few new names looking to bring home that trophy. With that, here are my top five sixth man candidates for this season. Read More »

We Reminisce: K-Mart Gives Jermaine O’Neal The Business

Is there anyone in the League that goes harder in the paint than Kenyon Martin? The former consensus National Player of the Year and No. 1 draft pick was arguably one of the best big man dunkers in the early 2000s. I’ve seen a fair share of facials throughout my years of watching the NBA, but there isn’t one I love more than this. K-Mart and Jermaine O’Neal were at the top of their game, both young and highly athletic dunkers before knee injuries slowed their careers. Kenyon started last season off slow, but don’t get it twisted – he’ll still bring the thunder on you like Zeus.
