I know what you’re thinking. For a man with such paternal infamy, you had to know this day would come. The eldest child of former All-Star Shawn Kemp committed to Alabama, choosing the Crimson Tide over Ole Miss, Georgia, Auburn, Cincinnati, Nevada and Washington.
Now don’t think Shawn Kemp Jr. is getting a free ride based […]

There’s something about NBA pre-game introductions that makes me want to get to the game two hours ahead of time. Growing up watching the Chicago Bulls in the ’90s made The Alan Parsons Project’s song “Sirius” a staple on my iPod – and even the primary ringtone for one of the Dime Crew and his […]

“I’d be the first one to go.”
Oftentimes when you read interviews with NBA players from the mainstream media, they talk about positional battles, coaching changes and title aspirations. While Delonte West’s interview on Cavs.com started off in typical fashion, it quickly took a turn into left field.
When asked if there was anything to the rumor […]

Ready for GQ?
While David Stern often looks to Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Chris Paul as the faces of the League, he should realize that some guys are putting in more work than just jump shots in the off-season. Turns out Stephen Jackson, renowned for his Michael Strahan-esque gap, is rockin’ a new grill this […]

Livingston back at ABCD Camp
A couple weeks ago I listed Shaun Livingston as a free agent that should end up with a contract before opening night. Word out of South Beach this afternoon is that Livingston found his new home.
Livingston was in Miami on Friday morning and agent Henry Thomas was working with the Heat […]

Although the vast majority of us will never play on the NBA hardwood, we still continue to play the game. While the five-on-five runs start to get harder as you get older, one game you can play no matter how old you get is H-O-R-S-E. Although I never thought I could beat an NBA player […]

Could he be the MVP?
Michael Beasley probably couldn’t tell you who Maurice Podoloff is, but “The Beast” has set his sights on his trophy.
“I want to be MVP, no disrespect to nobody,” Beasley said Monday after the Heat’s practice at American Airlines Arena. “I don’t ever want to be second best. I feel I can […]

While many people would say that Starbucks is Seattle’s best, I beg to differ. The other day I was able to get up with Jamal Crawford and Jason Terry – two of the greatest players to have played in the 206 – and talk to them about the Emerald City, where they play ball and […]

Waiting all the way until the start of training camp, Ben Gordon finally made the announcement last night that he would take the qualifying offer of $6.4 million from the Bulls and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Chicago’s largest offer to the four-yet vet was a six-year deal worth about $59 million, and […]

Perhaps it’s the appeal of playing in the League but not living in the United States that has seen the Toronto Raptors become the NBA’s premiere destination of Euroleague talent. Or perhaps its just the excellent scouting and vision of GM Bryan Colangelo. Nonetheless, former Euroleague stars Andrea Bargnani, Anthony Parker, Jose Calderon and now […]

D-Wade
I completely understand why any available PG (Stephon Marbury, Jamaal Tinsley, Shaun Livingston) is mentioned in conjunction with the Miami Heat. With a nucleus of Dwyane Wade, Shawn Marion and Michael Beasley, the Heat definitely have the core of a playoff-bound team. One glaring position missing from that equation is point guard.
In years past, this […]

With the Presidential Election right around the corner, it’s time to get informed. One person who is exercising their civic duty is Minnesota Timberwolves’ second-year forward Corey Brewer. I talked with him the other day about his work with the “Respect My Vote” voter registration campaign, his choice for President and his thoughts on voting […]

Thank you Google. In a world saturated with media, sometimes I’ll search Google News to see breaking stories in the basketball world. This morning I got lucky.
Rodney Williams Jr., considered one of the best leapers in the nation, has decided to commit to Tubby Smith over at the University of Minnesota. A blue-chip recruit out […]

KG playing 2K9
As we told you the other day in Smack, a couple of the Dime crew hit up the NBA 2K9 pre-season party in the Big Apple to celebrate the launch. Cover guy Kevin Garnett was on hand for the invite-only, VIP launch party at The Space in SoHo, along with Andre Iguodala, Brook […]

T.J. One of the few that made it.
With David Harrison getting some looks before training camps open next week, it got us thinking about how touted the 7-footer was out of high school. Looking back, we checked out the rosters for the 2001 McDonald’s High School All-American Game and were astounded at how few of […]
